I've already discussed this with Paul, and agree that the answer he has provided is probably what will be in the official answers, but think it's worth putting here for any teachers or students who are interested or concerned From wikipedia, "most common red giants are stars on the red-giant branch (RGB) that are still fusing hydrogen into helium in a shell surrounding an inert helium core". I assume that a statement that there is no core fusion but hydrogen fusion in a shell would also get a mark.
