So this has been over on Patreon for a while haha, not sure why so long but I think it's a good time to share my reaction to Hua Chenyu performing 'Nunchucks' on I think, The Singer???
This was a reaction request from the big list, which is still pretty mammoth haha... and I can honestly say, I was not expecting this!

You never know what you will get when you click on a Hua Chenyu video for the first time but it is always amazing. I love that. I love especially his own compositions. I never get tired of listening to his music. And his Mars concerts..... just mindblowing 😮🤯🤩

Yes, you never know what you'll get even with songs you've heard before, because he tweaks them or rewrites them. "Codename Contra" and "Contra in the Wild" being so different.

Thank you so much for your lovely reaction. Hua Hua (his nickname, which means flower) entered The Singer competition in 2018 at episode 4 as a replacement and came second overall (to Jessie J). Hua said: “Actually all the songs I sang during the show ‘Singer’ is about my personal growth and the mountains I scaled one after another to get there.” So now that you have reacted to his first three songs (Qi Tian, Child, Nunchucks) I would love if you could follow through with “I Don’t’ Care”, the fourth song in the series, (showing his disdain). So completely different to his previous songs on The Singer. He holds the audience in the palm of his hand! By the way, because he didn’t win The Singer 2018, he was invited to participate in The Singer 2020, which he won. Hua Hua will continue to astound you!!

The rules of the singer's program involve adapting songs. Jessie J's adaptation, for me, is about skillfully singing a song, while Hua Chenyu's adaptation is about deconstruction followed by reconstruction. He completely transforms the song into his own style, which is a continuously surprising aspect.

I remember the first time I watched this performance, I cried, tears streaming down my face for no apparent reason. Interestingly, when I shared it with my husband, he also cried! As you mentioned, this song is a sad one, and Hua Chenyu had an unhappy childhood. He expresses his childhood emotions through this song, perhaps that's why we feel the sadness. This song is truly beautiful, it has always been the white rose in my heart, so beautiful! If the "Child" is the angelic Hua Chenyu, I hope your next song explores the demonic side of Hua Chenyu, "Fake Monk."

My goodness, he is absolutely just so original! Talented, original, beautiful in so many ways...it's taken me a couple of days to try to know what to say but all I can do is listen and watch again. Captivating. I'd place him as the winner in the competition due to uniqueness and consistent originality...but as he expressed, everyone should have their own stage. He is a gift. Mahalo from Kauai!

Enjoyed your great reaction, watching your hand movements to the delicate mood of the song. Hua didn't join till episode 4 so Jesse was #1 in the 1st three episode till Hua came If I'm not mistaken. But in the end Jesse won this season. Though I believe Hua brought more versatility in his performances. In the end all that matters is we got to see Hua's unique talent that was memorable. So much more of Hua to explore. Please don't stop your reactions to him. Maybe react to a duet with Su Shiding, Nanping Evening Bell.
