If pricing is similar I'm pretty sure the X Pro is a much better machine, man. 😊 It has a bigger and brighter screen. Better speakers and Thunderbolt 3 ports plus you get one legacy USB-A port too. The only downside of the model is a less than ideal webcam placement so if you do lots of video conferencing, then the 13 is slightly better. 😁

Pro is better. Not a world of difference, but larger display, better audio, TB3, worse camera placement.

Enough with this webcam placement crap. Im a x pro guy all the way now if you're not a cam model or a hopeless romantic that needs to skypw your lover then the cam is where it should be! Id sacrifice it to have the extra screen space. Besides it's not a good cam so you're better off with buying an external one anyways

its 5-10% at most. slight bump. keep what you got, enjoy it for easily 2-3 years. could probably go for 5 if its light use

I currently use a Toshiba Satellite S55 that I bought in early 2014 that I'm getting ready to replace (it's served me well for 5 years). I'm trying to decide if, in upgrading from that, is the processor in the Matebook 13 enough to give me reason to not want to buy the Matebook X Pro instead? Or, and this may be the reality, are both processors so much of an improvement over the i7-4510U in my current machine that it doesn't really matter either way? I'm inclined to go with the Matebook X Pro because of the battery, speakers, and screen; but I don't want to be giving up a major performance bump in that tradeoff.

It's more than enough for those stuff. What makes a device snappy is the ssd, for the most part. Anyway, the i5 from 8th onwards are all quad core devices, so it's not really worth it to get the i7 unless you need the extra ram for programming purposes and stuff. Both the i5 and i7 matebook x pro takes around the same time to load from when you press the power button (~9 seconds from power button to log in desktop), so yes, the i5 matebook is sufficiently quick, for sure.

OrangeBking You know after owning it for 5 months I do have to say I don’t have this issue. I don’t do too much gaming so it doesn’t heat up when just browsing the web. With intense applications it can get warm but it shouldn’t stop you from buying this. I use this everyday in college.

Almost no thin laptops have replaceable RAM, and RAM is not cheap. RAM is quite expensive.

So, how much do you think an extra 8gb soldered chip would impact on a notebook's price? I guess a very small amount. And, from a technical viewpoint, it makes much more sense to have 16GB of ram on a i5 than 8gb on i7 (which, by the way, are never 8gb, as integrated graphic cards drain some of the system memory to do their job). Actually, the reason that most of ultra-notebooks are sold with just 8gb of RAM, it's not to contain costs, neither a technical reason. It's all about marketing.

Pretty much all laptops have screen wobble otherwise you'd need two hands to open them.

Fair on TB3, but if you want an SD card slot in a laptop get ready to have your field of options - especially at 13" - cut down dramatically. There are basically none left, none that are very good.

@lasest2 it is for now. But no room for improvement in $1,3k i7 8gen laptop at the beginning of 2019 when in 2018 8GB was a workable minimum - don't like the way it goes. I would prefer i5 + 16gb over i7 + 8gb RAM.

i play warframe, a pretty low power game, and that almost passes 8gb. there are a lot that need 16

I Sell my laptop every two years. Just bought Surface book 1 for 380 €. Also bought a Performance base in China. Play Warframe on Switch. Maybe try Desktop and a 2 in 1. Every piece of the PC will be more powerful.
