Agreed! I've had several fail because of that but I replaced them, unaware that it was the manufacturing process that caused the faults. I will never buy another one now after seeing this!

@@racrx7 For real, I wouldnt trust manual winded rotor/stator over any machine made ones... any slight change in winding will result in different motor performance.

You need to compact the winding somehow, otherwise it will not fit. When i have to rewind one of those i use a piece of bakelite or thick impregnated paper to do the job. If you use more force while winding and compact properly it is possible to fit 25% more wires than original, which makes motor stronger and more efficient, however winding takes 2 hours and not some minutes. Over 75% of what i rewound failed due to water or overheat, when insulation fails it is due to vibration rubbing varnish through, not being impregnated with resin and wound quite loosely. And if the metal rod is polished smoothly and has no sharp edges it should not damage insulation in any way that counts.
