From my understanding, the relationship between Long and FDR was pretty cordial, if anything. Long criticized FDR in such a way as to shame the rest of the New Deal coalition into marching lock-step. Remember FDR only got as powerful as he did because he had a 'dream team' of party officers and politicians at his back, from his own wife to the various offices in the house and senate to the various state-level offices. Long was simply another person that helped FDR get that power.

Long was less a Nazi than he was a con-man. He knew how to appeal to peoples desperation, a classic demagogue and a would be authoritarian dictator. (2) Fascism always uses an "other" to scapegoat; For the Germans it was the Jews, Italians it was Slavs and Jews to some extent, and for the Spanish it was the Catalans and other non-Castillians. Long avoided race baiting in general. (3) All of Coughlin's anti-semitic statements were made after Long was assassinated, it's not fair to associate Long with anti-Semitism. (4) Long never opposed capitalism (he did say he was trying to save capitalism on multiple instances) and Mussolini abandoned his syndicalist leanings for corporatism in the early 20s to appease squadristi militias. Kingfish was a very rare example of an effective liberal authoritarian, nothing more.
