I think I went to my first Overland Expo in 2012 when it was at Mormon Lake Arizona in the mud and in the middle of nowhere! I miss those days. Now it’s on asphalt.

Went to the 1st Overland Expo in Apr 2009. Then it was in Prescott. Been to another 3-4x since, including in Loveland, CO. Since 2009, the Expo has grown exponentially. In 2009, not more than 20 vehicles/vendors. Essentially, Overlanding is a niche, Van life as well, the RV industry missed with their cookie cut RV and lack of creativity. It is both Van Life and Overlanding that exploded the solar and lithium (and others to lesser degrees, ie industries compost toilets and water filters), which the RV industry continues to lag behind. That said, in building my Overland vehicle I sought the best ideas from marine, tiny homes, RV, Van Life, Overlanding, and even real estate. Not only from USA but the world over. Thanks for sharing.

Timing! While taking the dog out for a hike, saw a tesla truck heading into a local golf course. HAHAHA. Figures! If that floats your boat,..I have no problem with it. Just don't make similar things mandatory for everyone. Couldn't afford it and even if I could I don't wear a batman costume while taking the dog for hikes. Can't picture anyone without such garb getting out of one. That's all I'll say about that. For me,..the best part of this video series is the setting. Another good one here. Cheers. 👍

I was a Custom 1 off van converter back in the "1980s. Today I see this stuff and can't believe those days are still here. We were building that stuff minus the hi tech stuff back then. We were using 120 plug in's or maybe a generator or inverter. Dual 12v lead acid deep cycle batteries with a solenoid switch. Keep on Vanin'. JCG

We had a "Time out" pop up tent camper trailer that was made for motorcycle to pull. It has a queen size bed, a dunning table and room for. 2. chairs in the front

I went to Overland Expo East in Virginia last year (video on my page) and they had some cool stuff. Everything from little trailers, rooftop tents to mega million overland vehicles. I attended a lot of classes and they had great information!! We stayed all weekend and had a great time. Gave me a good idea what I wanted to buy after attending the classes. Pull straps, tire repair and GPS for me. My class C Rv is 4wd so it was really informative. 👍🏼

Huge amount of vendors trying to sell stuff..dont see that many potential customers there..pretty scarce..and those vans at 200k+ are over priced and people cant afford them...and they dont list the prices on their rigs..big red flag

Same for new cars. Trucks especially. 60 - 80 grand. Used cars are vaporizing. Nothing available. They've become so valuable,..ads are now running looking for your old, unwanted cars, (just like they used to run for houses),. No one I know can afford 200k for a van. Even if they could - they wouldn't.

@@jimp.7286 I'm trying to imagine the feeling once i get my 200K+ van and hit the Travel At Your Own Risk trail and watch the chunks of rubber shredded from my tires and listening to to rocks gouging my skid plates hoping the bolts holding them on don't break exposing my transfer case and differentials.

Russ, you and I are liked minded, for sure. It's all too much for a lot of that stuff, and not financially doable for most people. While I could probably go get a loan for one of those $200,000+ vans, I would not care much for getting "pin striping" on it so what would be the point for me? I have toured several of them and most feel like a cheap RV type build. I do like to go as far out as I can get, but it is not necessary to spend that kind of money to do it. Too each their own. Some of that stuff would be a blast to use if just going out for a few weeks max, but not for full time living.

Small niche in the RV market. This concept misses the point of rugged terrain camping/exploring. If you want a Ritz Carlton experience then check in that hotel. The cost factor of most of this equipment is not realistic, furthermore, wastes energy, easily could damage the environment by driving such large vehicles. I don't get this type of approach to rugged camping.
