What freaks me out much more than the waves is when the ice flips and floats back up to the surface. Very frightening and awesome. The ice looks amazing and beautiful.

And not a single one of them realizes that they are watching the pulse of the earth slowly stop! We have lost more ice in the past ten years then we had 160 years ago and still no one will care until the storms on top of us and then they will say can we stop it and we will say well we could have if we started caring 100 years ago but now we have to let it take it’s course and still that doesn’t scare anyone! But seriously it is beautiful to see so I guess there’s that!

Strictly speaking it isn't "glacier waves" - the glacier is static - it's the icebergs which calve from the glacier that are causing the waves.

Yes! I’ve watched various videos of that break, and it always boggles my mind, and for so many reasons. How did the videographer(s) know to be at the ready to capture this awesome spectacle? I have seen videos of this from several different angles. As for the size…it is almost impossible for my itty-bitty human brain to comprehend the massive size of the collapse. It isn’t just the size of the island Manhattan, but also included in that scope is all of Manhattan’s structures, skyscrapers, etc.! The first time I saw this and the first huge piece of blue ice bobbed back up, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! It looked like a monster whale…when, in fact, it was much, much bigger than the biggest whale imaginable. That particular angle is not seen in this video. It still blows my mind, no matter how many times I see it.

This isn't global warming, which causes glaciers to recede. This is just plain gravity - heavier layers of snow and ice at higher altitude pushing the glacier downhill until it breaks off when its bottom hits the shallow sea floor.
