Zach, you’ve got the best tones, man! Consistently the best guitar tones nowadays, no kidding. I’d really like if you could make a video showcasing your guitars and their tones, playing riffs, just like you do in the amps demos, and yalking about the guitars’ specs. Cheers, brother.

I’ve owned the Hot Rod for a couple of years and not really understood how it can be used in a silent recording situation. I’d bet there are many others who also don’t appreciate how it can be used in a DI setting. I also didn’t realize I could use my Neural DSP plugins for my impulse responses only. I could’ve saved a lot of money on Yorkville and OwnHammer purchases. There are a lot of newbies getting into home recording who don’t fully understand how to take advantage of the current technology. Thanks for putting together this video!

You should not say what you’re using and see how many people guess that it’s a pedal and not an amp. 99% can’t tell the difference and, quite honestly, it doesn’t matter. The pedal sounds outstanding.

Thanks so much! Yeah, since the pedal is so amp-like, it takes boosts really well. It's pretty high gain on its own, but if you're looking to boost it further, it'd work great.

Awesome video and tones as usual! I got the revival drive compact after seeing your demo. Is it worth getting that one too or would you rather just boost the original revival drive for more gain?

That's a tricky one. The standard Revival Drive is pretty amazing and because they respond just like a real amp, they take boost pedals really well. So if you already have the standard one, I'd try it with a few boosts and see if you dig it. But the Hot Rod version does the low gain thing great as well. Usually, if you turn down the gain on something that's supposed to be "high gain" they end up sounding really weak and anemic, but that's not the case here. I'd try boosting what you've got first. The delay plug-in you’re using sounds awesome here. I’ve got the soundtoys echoboy and I love their dm2 setting on guitars in the dual mode for huge stereo analog delay sounds. I haven’t been the biggest fan of their tape based delay sounds though. Im sure you’ve used the echoboy before how would you say the repeater compares to it? Also echoboy is a little overwhelming with tweaking options I like something where the sound is there you just kind of trim the high and low end and set your level and feedback. I will say their new super plate reverb is freaking great. I always have it on on guitar in my DAW now.

I use EchoBoy all the time as well. One of my favorite delay plugins. I kind of use them interchangeably. I feel like these two are so tweakable that you can get whatever you want out of them, but I'm not all that picky when it comes to delays. Thanks for checking out the video!

So thinking about getting slo 100. Curious why you hot one. If u already have a jj/friedman/jvm , 5150. What is the slo 100 giving u that the other amps u have. Your videos and playing is awesome. Very inspiring. Thx

I currently own the SLO 30 as opposed to the 100. They're both awesome, but they sounded so similar and I really liked the smaller/lighter form factor of the 30W head. I typically much prefer 100W heads (I have a whole video on this subject: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jp-FZa-ovMCYn2w.html) but the SLO 30 is one of the rare instances where the lower wattage version of the head still sounds huge. When it comes to straight up higher gain tones, I usually go for Friedman/Marshall kinds of tones. The SLO overdrive is pretty legendary, but the bottom end isn't as tight as what I normally aim for. I use the Crunch channel on the SLO most of the time as opposed to the Overdrive channel. I've definitely got some overlap in the amps that I have and could use to get rid of one or two one of these days...but today is not that day. Thanks so much for the kind words!

Got it. I have jj/dvh4/ mark v 90 watts. i tried the slo 100 model on the axe fx 3 modeler. And instantly felt the mid and mid high had a great note clarity especially when playing chords. Very different than my jj and dvh4. However felt a sag in the low end on the modeler. Not sure if thats the axe or the way the slo 100 really sounds. Man your playing and tones are amazing. Is there a way to listen to your originals?

Yeah! Programming drums can be really tedious at first, but once you get the hang of it, you can get pretty speedy with it. The Bogren stuff is great! Thanks for checking out the video.

if you have the Neural software - why do you need the Revival Drive ? doesnt the software do amp models etc ?

Just different flavors. The Neural stuff is great and I use their stuff all the time, but if you have a Revival Drive, it's cool that you can use it with a regular guitar amp, power amp, or direct in like this. Like I said in the video, as much as amp sim plugins are getting pretty amazing these days, this pedal gets closer to the feel and sound of playing through a big amp in my opinion. Thanks so much for checking out the video!

Closest I’ve heard a solid state pedal get to sounding like a tube. Bout 90 percent there. I don’t know why but tubes always have that top end sparkle/presence that just can’t seem to be replicated with solid state or digital. Still amazing. Great video.
