HUGE response to large wildland fire, Baird Springs Fire (07-03-18)

Wildfire started by a train grew quickly prompting county wide mobilization. Trucks responding and some water drops from helicopters as well as mop-up operations.

What state was this in? And how big did the fire get

Trevor Smathers Washington state and the fire got to about 2300 acres.

Looks like one farmer put out more fire than 20 trucks and three helicopters.

How did they get all those units from the middle of nowhere

Most of them are 4x4 or 6x6 with large tires that are able to traverse the wild lands and get to the fire.

Oh I apologize. We have very strong mutual aid agreements so usually fires of this size require a 'county wide mobilization' in which any and all available units from the 15 districts in the county will respond. Usually 1 to 3 units each but combined makes for an impressive response. Hope that helps.

Farmers do this all the time where I'm from in eastern Oregon. Making a fire break, you got to do what you got to do.

It is against the law now to fly drones at the fire scene unless the fire dept are using them. (Not really sure on that)
