Exploring massive Sea Cave on New Zealand's Coromandel Peninsula.
Going out for a days spearfishing to get a feed I search a new piece of coastline i've never dived before and manage to grab a good feed of Spiny Red Rock Lobster (Crayfish). I encounter an unexpected huge sea cave and paddle inside on my Kayak. Incredible morning out on the water Freediving and gathering. Living from the ocean

Hey , Um small diver just starting to fall in love with diving. Could you do a video on what you need , How to be prepared and any tips and tricks that could help beginners. How to catch cray , how to hold breath longer ? love the channel.

Youll see Ollie pull his snorkel out when diving. Its best practice in case of blackouts. You dont want to be floating on the surface choking on water in your snorkel. Go practice at the pools and learn your limits. Try taking 3 big breathes before diving down. Relax and cruise. If your coming up hyperventilating your body is near its limit and your risking blackout.

Nice one Ollie, love the vids- as a kiwi stuck overseas it makes me very homesick! Love the positive message you put out there too man, it’s not about bagging as many fish as you can, spearos and fishermen need to be stewards of the ocean. Keep it up man and keep those spots close to your chest!

Hey Guyon, Cheers for the comment. Hard and fast and aim to get hold of their horns (base of the feelers). If you grab the feelers they will just break off. Aim mid body almost as they move back so fast. I like to use one hand to distract the cray and move feelers up or down then go hard in with the other hand

Hey Arthur, cheers for the comment. I have a set of cray nooses made up. Easy to do. Get 3m of mono, crimp them on themselves to a shark clip, from there you will have x6 500mm strands where you then create a loop at end and crimp tight enough to slide loop back and forth creating a snare you can put around there tails. All will cost you a couple of bucks. Then you can clip the shark clip to a weight belt keeper

Cheers Trent! I’ve got some cray snares that I made up myself easy peasy to make. Just get 3m of mono, a shark clip and copper crimps. Cut the mono into 50cm lengths then crimp half way on the shark clip, then another crimp to make a loop on its self other end. Can buy them pre made otherwise cost you a couple of dollars to make. I then clip the shark clip onto my weight belt keep

Just started out and keep running into Sting rays. What do you do when you see them? Best to steer clear, move away from the area when you encounter ?

I see them on almost every dive, Usually a good sign of a healthy ecosystem. Just let them be and don't interfere with them. If you leave them alone they will leave you alone

Yeah mate, Don't need anything flash any old kayak will do the job. BIgger ones like mine (4m +) def help on the longer missions but I started on a crappy old thing. That line is a Riffe hard line. Any hard line will do from a reputable brand, some of the cheaper ones don't last very long.
