Farm owner/homesteader is farm manager and livestock psychologist. Who would have ever thought that investing in a sizeable land project and dealing with God's Creatures Great and Small would require so many hats!!!!!!!!!1🤨🤨🤨 Farmers/homesteaders are some of the smartest people on earth. Speaking from farming family roots from both parents.

Just a suggestion for your new farm setup. Do a vision board like a map to follow with the actual size of the land and the size of the two homes, buildings, pens, bird sanctuary, etc. Including where the roads are, power lines, Internet, water lines, pond, orchards, forest, etc. This will give you all a great visual of how everything will come together when finished.

I like your truck. You can do more with that. Great! I like the steel shelters but I’ll throw out a suggestion: In your hot climate they may get very hot inside when in the sun, despite being open in the front. Hang a thermometer in there at goat height on a hot sunny day to check it. Metal heats up.

Hey yal!!! When you get to the new farm, and settled, consider some genies. Get them as chicks, give them lots of human contact as they grow, so that they know you. As they mature clip wings for first year or so. They can fly for a good ways. They are good for tick and fleas and mites. Feed them in same area and water in several places to mark their space. One rooster to about 6 hens.

port a huts are wonderful for all kinds of animals, we have used ours for our goats & our miniature horses for over 20 yrs. now, we even had a tree fall on one of ours. Smashed it down a little but just got the sludge hammer and pounded it back in shape. The animals love them and so easy to move around plus hold up well under the tons of snow that we get her in Northern Michigan

Those types of shelters were very popular over here in the UK after WW2, because the metal left over from the war meant they could often be built for free. We still had some in use in our local area right up until the 1990's. Used mostly for sheep, goats, calves and pigs, but occasionally for free ranging chickens or ducks as well. Nigh near indestructible is right.

I would suggest that you put your Goats and Pigs in a Heavyly wooded, fenced in area, that would give them a lot of shade. If you have to put the metal shelters out in the open sun be sure you face the front opening and back in a North-South direction. cut a hole at TOP back of shelter to get a good circlation of air blowing blowing through shelter. The chicken Coops should diffentatly put in between Trees. Save the open pasture area for Hay Cutting.
