The US has lifted its two-decade-old unilateral and illegal sanctions program on Zimbabwe, opting instead for targeted sanctions on specific individuals and entities, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Zimbabwe stands as one of the most sanctioned countries in the world, as the Western powers seek to destabilize the country to punish the country for resisting their influence. Rutendo Matinyarare joins the show to explain that while the removal of the Executive Order sanctions is a “huge achievement” for Zimbabwe, the US may be preparing to sanction South Africa, which could have a devastating impact on the region. Matinyarare is the Chairperson of Zimbabwe Anti-Sanctions Movement (ZASM) and founder of Zimbabweans Unite Against US War Sanctions (ZUAUWS).

That’s not true study Russian situation sanctions didn’t affect them, because other countries were dependent on them for certain resources and commodities, and if you’re at a scale in a countries economy where you can compete with the US and your economy is big enough sanctions will have little to no effect on you and Ria situation was much much easier and even the economy group because China was helping. avoiding sanctions imposed on a country is intricate because if you’re talking about money, the global financial system is interconnected. Hence your trade can be affected in one way or another what will matter is, if your economy is robust enough and you have demand for your commodities

The people who are being "punished" don't really get affected at all because they have the means to find ways around the sanctions. Meanwhile the ordinary civilians can't even get access to regular health care as an example. I live in South Africa and seeing the plight of my fellow neighbouring Zimbabwean brothers and sisters suffer under these sanctions has been a disturbing and traumatic to witness.

How old do you think these sanctions are? Russia and China wouldn’t have helped not because they don’t want to but because they are systemic issues in Zimbabwe, the nationalization and stringent suppression of certain private enterprises has also contributed to some of the drawbacks because sanctions are just pretty much a blackmailing tool that the US has been known to use to try and force countries to do whatever they want. But saying that Russia and China would’ve come along to help is speculation, although there is a higher likelihood of China, helping compared to Russia.

I understand the economic relief it amounts to. So I understand how happy he is to see the sanctions lifted, but let's be honest here: Who in the world still trust the USA nowadays? It just happens that Africa is putting itself together and the West is weakening in the face of BRICS rising. So coercion would only add powder to an already explosive situation. The US needs to save its arsenal and money to undertake the giant project: Fighting to stop China's rise. And they cannot but negotiate either for your precious land resources or for political alliances like backing them up when they propose support for weaponizing Taiwan at the UN security council. It's always that simple as the US policies are not sophisticated at all. They keep repeating the same scenarios, the same errors, leaving a mess behind that they never clean. So ask yourself Zimbabwe whether you're in a position of force or not. I guarantee that you must be, otherwise they would treat you differently. The rules of laws do not apply to the USA. They make them and violate them without impunity all the time. Invite as many players at your table. Friends and foes. Russia, Iran, China and Turkey, the US and anyone in Europe... all at once to balance their power over you. That is the guarantee for your survival. That's how this geopolitical game is being played. Ask I. Traore...

Zimbabwe needs to have relations with as many nations as it can so that it is never again in a such a weak position that it can be sanctioned by anyone for 20 years.

One of the worst mistakes our African leaders make is they change one dominant player for another. I agree that they must work with everyone and create a balance that protects them from eother one of those powerful nations. But Zim is an authoritarian nation so they lean towards China and Russia. Why? Because the Western will say hey treat your people better don't kill them and abduct them for opposing you. And that creates friction because Zim gvt doesn't want to stop doing that😂 that's what keeps them in power. So i don't think they are capable of creating that balance that Zimbabwe can benefit from

@@Magumbo58 Authoritarian regimes are never the prefered way to independence, but often the only way to get there, hopefully once the country resume its activity the authoritarian regime will set itself aside to defend their democratically elected leader. Coups and authoritarian regimes are the cost of political stability that is needed for the economy to grow on stronger roots. It takes time which often is being exploited by the opposition backed foreign powers. That's why so many opposition are kept in the freezer while the revolution unwraps. Haiti is in such turmoil, but I know they will pull it through because their people value freedom before all.

Last I checked Rhodesia, apartheid South Africa, jim crow America were never defined as "totalitarian states" by the white west. Why would that be the case? How much infrastructure has the white west built iIn Africa since the 1400s? How many Chinese or Russian settler colonies are there in southern Africa in 2024? How many hectares of land are controlled in the region by Chinese or Russians? How many Chinese or Russian military bases are there in Africa? How many genocides have the Russians or Chinese committed in Africa? How many African leaders have been assassinated or overthrown by China or Russia? What is the white west planning to do about land reform or about undoing centuries of harm? I would say nothing or more of the same while shucking and jiving about human rights which it doesn't even practice in places like the US itself.

As a South African that does not like the ZANU PF government in Zimbabwe simply because they have abused the human rights of their own people........ American and Western sanctions are BS. If Zimbabweans want to change their government then that is up to them. Not up to any foreign government to decide. Regardless of how I feel about that government. America and the West need to grow up and accept that many people and countries have different opinions, different politics, and points if view. Both in Zimbabwe and South Africa is But how one goes about it matters. Physically attacking people in their homes is not the way to go about it. And we know it happened because a number of cases were filmed and captured on video for all to see. And the other problem I have is with the ZANU PF letting their people go hungry and be poor while their leadership was living in the lap of luxury during that time. That's just not right. Land reform in Zimbabwe could have been carried out in far more fair and equitable ways. Without violence , and without helping to destroy the economy (obviously the Western sanctions played a part too). You point out that it's about the land .....but it was also about the ZANU PF losing support and being in danger of losing the elections. So they jumped on the land issue not because they necessarily cared about it (the top members/leadership of the ZANU PF own plenty of land). Or cared about poor Zimbabweans getting land as compensation. They jumped on it to help them win an election that polling showed they were in danger of losing.

Thank you for this video. @Rutendo thank you for being so elaborate in your narrative. You've helped me see that the Americans did something they've never ever done in history, which is to remove the sanctions from a nation, and in this case - Zimbabwe. I believe this victory was won through spiritual warfare. Therefore, it's only a fair thing that in thankful acknowledgment, we'd pray for an unprecedented grace upon America, for swallowing their pride and extending Zimbabwe the olive branch. They really deserve a spiritual nod of acknowledgement for this. Your video was very timely, and I believe this particular gesture is what the LORD wanted to highlight, that Zimbabwe just received a miracle. Only God underwrites miracles, so to Him alone we give honor and glory for this. Thank you for your role in being used for this miracle because you've been advocating for this day for so many years. Many other activists have been fighting to see this day arrive as well. I was unaware that South Africa has been petitioning for ending the Zim sanctions. They too are now added on my prayer list of interceding for them. What a great and mighty God we serve. He alone sets times for start and end of judgments for people on earth. We thank Him for ending this judgements after over 20yrs of toil. Glory be to God.

Now, let's be truthful instead of emotional...there isn't a thing these little countries can do, other than what the people on youtube does on a regular basis...complain, bitch, gripe and moan, then grin, bend over and continually take it, from the corrupt regimes and leaders on the continent...whether it's next year or in the next five years, these same Africans will be here talking about how much of nothing they're still doing or accomplishing...it's a damn shame...

Whereas I do not underplay the role of Zimbabweans struggle, Mr Rutendo has completely failed see the importance of what has now ckme to be called the Global Majority. Without the Global Majority, Zimbabwe would have remained sanctioned even if it put thousands lawyers on the campaign. Lawyers are talking shop. But it appears Mr Rutendo cannot see geopolitics at play, perhaps too excited or for want of self aggrandizement. It is the unity that done it.

The global majority never campaigned against Zimbabwean sanctions, stop making assumptions. SADC especially South Africa played a big role in denouncing sanctions from Thabo Mbeki to Ramaphosa, as well as China and Russia. They stood up for Zimbabwe at the UN, vetoing against the USA. The rest of the world didnt care much.

@Bourne-fu8bz, even if the global majority didn't actively campaign for sanctions to be lifted, the threat of the global majority moving away from the US and towards China is enough to make the US reconsider the sanctions. Remember that these are US sanctions...not UN therefore no smart lawyers would make the US move

They removed the sanctions in preparation to their attack on South Africa in response to its stance on the "jenoside." With Houthies blocking the Red Sea, the route around Africa has become very important, including ports in South Africa, so they are looking to create some kind of insurance for themselves. This is still good news for Zimbabweans but will they forget what the US did? Will they start taking orders from it now to show their gratitude for being unsanctioned by one who sanctioned you?

that doesn't even make sense. Sanctions in Zim have little influence and Zimbabwe is a weak nation by geography, is a land locked nation that is barely industrial, they have no access to any ocean while SA has two oceans. South Africa is continental leader and power house, the two countries cant be compared. Its South Africa that fought for years for removal of zimbabwe sanctions because is SA economy that has to support and feed zimabweans in the middle of sanctions

The US do not need any assurances for ships to sail along our waters. SA will have to charge to service those ships so there is an incentive. Besides, it is highly unlikely that SA would want to block or attack any ship on our water or international waters. We have no reasons to

No SA law would not allow it to just block ships without reason or due process. Attacks do not have to be physical, they could accuse SA of something else without proof again. Shipments from the East to the West either pass through the red sea or the indian ocean. The East is the world's factory, and the west have the biggest consumer markets. Think about it.@@MusehanaH

USA is looking to find allies in Africa to use against sovereign states, who don't take orders from them, like South Africa. Kenya and Rwanda are already under their heavy influence. Wishing-well positive-thinking blessings are useless!! Zimbabwe has a massive trust deficit. Where is the external auditor for this so-called gold? An internationally-accepted auditor is needed. If a team from PWC or similar came from Johannesburg with approved assayers, that would certainly help. Also, Zim used to have five tonnes of gold from independence, which gave stability to the currency but it was all sold in the 2000's. How is the currency gold backed if a person can't redeem the zig for actuall gold? It appears to be just talk.
