I've found that, if you want to get rid of points coming from one point (0,0,0), then you need to copy beauty's alpha to position pass, and unpremult it. Kills those unwanted points. Another great video Hugo!

Great tutorial, can the pointcloud also be created from the world positon pass in fusion 17?
@ViralKiller
@ViralKiller Жыл бұрын
So instead of importing the 3d models, you use the position pass to create a 3D point cloud...I would probably make the whole thing in Houdini

Hey, great tutorial! Do you ever have the issue of the camera flipping in nuke? Exporting as alembic file has the correct placement, but it flips the camera. I use an axis to flip it correctly, but is there a way to export it out of maya correctly? Thanks!
@HugosDesk
@HugosDesk 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching. Never had this issue before but Maya is always a bit tricky. What Maya are you using?
@guilhermetrezzi
@guilhermetrezzi 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Great tutorial, but when i connect the alembic camera from maya into scanline render, it's aiming for another complete different area. Still couldn't figure out what's causing this problem.

I've had similar, the point seem to be facing the opposite direction right? There's an easy fix for that.

Hi Hugo, thanks for sharing your 5' tuts are all amazing. Got a question for this one > is it possible to get this works on a spherical cam with moving cam/objects (VR + Relighting in mind) ? ++
@HugosDesk
@HugosDesk 7 жыл бұрын
Good question. In what sense you mean? The position pass is super slow frame by frame. What did you wanted to do?
@mattguetta2051
@mattguetta2051 7 жыл бұрын
I'm trying to get a good point cloud workflow for VR. I've never been able to setup a good one with a deep spherical image. Now with position pass I can setup a good point cloud preview but it's not deep so it's good for relighting but (in my test) not as good as I hope for adding 2D cards as I still need to render extra matte. Do you know if this can be done with deep too and if it's faster than position ?

Great video! but i wonder how to get these elements properly displaced behind something, I know you can use cryptomatte but can we just use the position pass to cut out ? or should I just use deep ?thanks!

Is this technique better than Deep pass? Thanks for the video
@HugosDesk

Deep is better. Please note that this video was made a long time ago, before Deep was mainstream but it’s still a valid technique for productions that don’t use Deep.

I have a lot of knowledge in NUKE but still...I am not convinced to use it in project...for example now I really need to compose a lot of elements together - smoke, sand, a wizzard 'n stuff....but still for me faster in AE...

01:41 When you google _what is a position pass_ it literally goes to this video which tells you to google it, hilarious internet irony though not very helpful. Position Pass ~ X, Y and Z vectors encoded into the Red, Green and Blue channels respectively in 3D world space , similar concepts are UV pass or normal maps.
