Imagine reading manga that wasn't translated by SJ on purpose, but instead scanned and cleaned and translated directly from the printed Jump by high schoolers so that international fans can enjoy it almost as immediately as Japanese fans. Man this is so surreal. The developers of this game used a software called "Manga Maker Comipo!" which I'm intimately familiar with, and just seeing them use all the template characters in the game just gave me weird, but oddly wholesome, vibes.

Holy shit yes, I was not ecpecting the hundreds of hours of my mispent youth to come back to haunt me this day. I feel like the concept of scanlations are just one of those internet obscurities that I never expected to see in a mainstream youtube video, especially since it's something from my past I never thought to process in a meaningful way lol. It's fantastic.

This is absolutely a scanlator sim. Like Arin said, in the official world, the pages are already provided for you, although the quality/extent of cleaning varies depending on the publisher you're working with. As far as procedures go, there's not a whole lot that's different between scanlation and official translation. Of course, with official translations, you get better proofreaders as well as Japanese proofreaders, but you're also CONSTANTLY getting the manuscript sent back for more touch-ups because there's one pixel that's not properly aligned or one phrase that the publisher didn't like... (Yes I work as a manga translator why do you ask)

They are likely trying to compete with other fan translations doing scans before the digital release of the manga is published or this is quite possibly referencing an older method of uploading digital scans of manga on the internet before digital media was quite as pronounced i.e. 15-20 years ago.

I'm halfway done getting my Bachelor's in Translation and Interpretation and this game an ironic translation nightmare. The sheer amount of mistakes is astounding. The fact that I know Russian only adds to the pain. It's hilarious. What a way to start my day.

honestly loved it when they were explaining things about scanlations. I've read many manga and manhwa from independent groups and this feels nostalgic. I could point out the mistakes in the scanning aswell since i've read many badly scanned manga.

I'm not sure I truly understood what "representation in media" meant until Dex holding their hands out during a presentation was brought up and I had an incredibly vivid flashback of the time I gave a 9th grade presentation on the F-15 Tomcat and my knifehands were on-fuckin-point

this game feels like a guy who just really knows a lot about and loves manga translation and just wanted to share his love and tell everyone about it but he knew they wouldn't be that interested if he wrote a book or something so he made a game instead. it's a lovingly made tutorial teaching game!

Man I really hope they come back to this. I haven’t laughed this hard in awhile, it’s hard to find a game so consistently ridiculous and unintentionally hilarious, it didn’t get stale for a moment
