In 1973 I was 11 years old. I remember these huge cars as being the normal cars that everyone drove. I really liked the 4 door hardtops like this car is. It was so fun to ride in with all the windows down. One of my friends Mom had the 2 door version of this car. Same color inside and out as this car is.

Love these old boats. They have a smooth ride that is unmatched by most anything today. While it’s nice to have a sharp handling car, sometimes it’s nice to have a super smooth cushy ride.

Such memories. In my first job in 1975 my boss drove this car. He always came in each morning, gave me his car keys and asked me to do him a favor and park his car. So I would go out to the hotel entrance, and drive his car several times around the hotel grounds pretending to find the best parking spot. It was like stearing a floating car, but I loved it. Especially pretending that it was mine. Lol.

Im 18 years old and most youngins my age want new luxurious mercs and fast cars and all but i just cant stop thinking about buying a old school car !!this is my favourite old skool along with lincoln continental

5 years later I am watching this video and just bought a "Sky blue" '73 Imperial identical to this one. Took awhile-but I got it.

You guys down south are blessed with a perfect weather. Cars live long, no snow, no salt on the road. Car body last much longer than in Canada. Here cars may last 10 years max, then they rust to irreversible damage. This Chrysler is a pearl. Take good care...

I love these old school land yachts. I recently owned a 1978 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham which was the former Imperial LeBaron. What a ride that was. Sold it to a guy in Cleveland, Ohio who flew to Birmingham, Al to pick it up and drove it home.

ahhh the old days -- Driving around in a living room was soooooo awesome. I remember when vent windows disappeared. I was so pissed... LOL that baby even had power vent windows. Pure luxo-barge.

I turned 19 a week ago and not but a month before that I bought a 71' Newport in Ohio. Original jet black paint with a thin red stripe running down the sides. I love these big luxury cars, makes for the smoothest ride anyone could be in.

You brought back memories for me when as a teenager just training to be an auto mechanic the big Chryslers and Dodges (family cars) were the first vehicles I worked on and kept maintenance up on. My mom didn't know a Oldsmobile Cutlass from a Mercury Marquis but the cars she could always spot was a Chrysler. My next door neighbor has a 69 Imperial and there were times he took out the back seat and hauled furniture in it. I miss the smooth ride, the cornering lamps and that big torquey 440. I had a 1971 Imperial and loved it. The steering was so easy. Great on the highway. AC shouldn't be a problem to repair.

my father used to get loners from the local garage every time our cars went in for repair ... all the loners were big ol' Chrysler boats ... loved them ... and those fender mounted turn signal indicators were the coolest, maybe I'll put some on my Hyundai !! lol

As an update, the Imperial has been sold and she's on her way to the new owner in England and should arrive sometime in February 2017. I hope the fine folks in the UK enjoy her as much as I did.

One of my favorite cars, imperial was far superior in terms of handling to gm and ford. And the 440ci is a very strong and bullet proof engine

Nice video, thankyou for making and posting it. A totally impractical impossible car to have here in France. I respect the Americans, you cherish, look after and keep older cars on the road. I always enjoy watching these videos, they put a smile on my face. I've always loved big floaty American cars.

My favorite car I owned was a 1972 Cadillac Sedan Deville with the 472 cu in. V8... that was also a beast and could pass everything but the gas station!

I had one of these back in the 80's - it was white, so it looked even bigger. I got a lot of good-natured attention with it and when someone asked me what possessed me to buy such a huge car I said: "Because just once in my life I wanted to hear a woman say, regarding something of mine: 'My God that's the biggest thing I ever saw!'

If I owned this great car I would keep it and go the full distance with a complete cosmetic restoration! This is one of my favorite luxury cars from any era. I cannot buy it myself but whoever does should do the full restoration!

i was born in '72 when i started driving i grew up with these cars along with the olds,impalas,caddy's,catalinas,bonneville's,and so on but the chryslers were my favs.i hav a 72 town/country wagon with 53k miles all orig that i saw sitting in a front yard in mexico so i asked if it was 4 sale and man told me i could hav it for $800.put a batt and some gas in carb and cranked right up smooth cant tell its on! like you said they dont hold much value so now im gonna sell it cause i will never get my $$ back if i start fixing it up...wish i could keep it but times are hard.....beautiful imperial...

Beautiful automobile... I remember my aunt who was only 4' 11" drove a '73 it was maroon. She was so tiny in that car. Refused to ever get rid of it drove it every day until she passed away 5 years ago. I would have loved to had that car it was in mint condition. Thanks for sharing this.

Learned to drive in one of theses, the power steering was awesome. Slept in the back window as a kid on long trips. So many memories!! Gold exterior with green pleather.

I had a 71 Imperial. Dark green. Front was a little different but the interior was the same. Loved it. Power windows, air conditioning and rust spots can all be fixed.

I had a 1971 Chrysler Imperial two-door coupe, white leather, and burgundy, two years old at the time and very cool for a twenty-one-year-old kid.

My Dad had a brown '73. He set it up to run on propane to increase economy and power. My Mom nicknamed it "the Walrus ".

My dad and I pitched in to get a 1969 Imperial Crown for my 19th birthday. Can't wait to have it be my college car next year. For $3500 it was quite the steal. That's what's great about these cars though, you can still find decent Imperials for less than $5k and they are worth every penny.

I used to have a 1971 Imperial Le Baron, fully loaded, what a car that was I wish I still had her today. For a big car, she sure could go, lol fooled many people at a light.

I think Imperial was the only full sized Mopar that still had vent windows in 1973. Beautiful RARE car!!!!

That vinyl top issue isn't about "shrinking" There is rust around the glass and on the roof. Rust repair, R&I the back glass, replace the vinyl and replacement of rear window motors and possibly regulators. That's a good $2000 depending on the shop.

What a beauty.....brings back memories of a car driven by an elderly family friend years ago, it may have been a late 70's Plymouth Gran Fury, it was big like this and featured rear opera windows.....rode so quiet and smooth.

Most of the issues can be addressed. Body roll can be controlled if you can find the Addco sway bars which were often used on Plymouth Fury III's. Vinyl top should be replaced or removed, as they often have rust underneath. I would get it replaced. Exhaust is noisy, it should be almost silent. But whatever floats your boat, or in this case, land yacht! Nice car. Oh, rear door window modulators are pretty easy to work on, I replaced the ones in my dad's 1970 Fury III. Usually only need to replace the plastic strip that works them.

Agree on the exhaust, it has a big hole. My aunt had a '72 Newport, same powder blue. Also identical to a state cop car. The trunk was huge. Every Christmas she would fill it with toys for her nieces and nephews.

I had two Imperials both 1972s both four doors the first one was darker blue with a AmFm stereo only in factory had a 440 4 carb But my second was brown also 4 door with AmFm eight track stereo sounded great and had a TNT 440 in the original air cleaner had that sticker on it had rear air conditioning but sold it when I got laid off back in 1982 Wish I still had it took a while to wash it but it rode so nice and the chrome would shine I’d like to have another once more before I die

Not only does this car have the expensive leather interior option but it has the extremely rare separate rear air conditioning option. If you watch the video where it shows you the shot of the dash, you can see the rear air conditioning switch. Beautiful car but needs some cosmetic restoration.

Beautiful car! It's crying out for a full restoration (when you get the time and money). I love how the indicators are visible from the driver's seat (small lights flashing atop the front of the fenders) and the look of the grille. I was a 12 year old when this car was new. Only a few made their way downunder (Chrysler were building a slightly smaller luxury car for our market...the "Chrysler by Chrysler"...yep, that was the name of it!) but I drooled over every one I saw. If I owned one like this I'd fully restore it, change the lights to LED, retrofit the modern Chrysler fuel injected V8 from the 300, install an ABS booster system and install a modern airbag steering wheel. The rest I'd leave as is...just fully restored. What a dream! One day, if I win the lottery......

I failed to mention my family never owned one of the fuselage cars but went from a '64 Sedan Deville, to a '67 Newport sedan to a '69 Olds 88 Royale to a '71 Sedan Deville and finishing out with a '79 Sedan Deville - every single one a memorable car. All bought no more than one year old. I've always driven pickup trucks and sports cars since. We had a neighbor who was big on Chrysler products. They owned a magnificent '72 Monaco Brougham with every option including sunroof and cassette player (mounted on the transmission tunnel /microphone). They traded it for an all black '78 New Yorker (last full size) before we moved away. What an american car era!

I had an Imperial in the early 1980's. Mine had all the base stuff, but what sets mine apart was. Posi rear end, anti lock brakes, lock alarm, and the stereo with the micro phone to dictate.

The front fenders from front to crack were the two longest metal stamping ever manufactured for a production car.

Years ago I owned a 9 passenger Chrysler New Yorker station wagon I forget what year was somewhere in the 70s 440 what a beautiful car. It drove down the highway like a train once I was moving and I got good fuel mileage

I took my driver's test in my mother's 1972 Imperial (same car,basically) ,From then I drove nothing but full size cars. Mostly Big Mopars and GMs. My current (1992 Cadillac Brougham) is about a foot shorter, but the Imperial and similar vintage Chrysler New Yorkers -( Official cars of 1970's Realtors!) handled better! - Me thinks they were right about those torsion bars!

I just love those big 70's cars! The size and styling is what made them distinctly AMERICAN. The European and Japanese car makes during those times pale in comparison to our styling. I used to own a 79 Mercury Cougar and what a beauty she was. You sir, have one fine gem of a car!

I am not a fan of light blue/sky blue/powder blue/robin's egg blue or any other shades of light blue, but this car is magnificently gorgeous, either due to or despite the light blue exterior! Simply gorgeous, simply stunning.

My Mom had a 1967(?) Chrysler Crown Imperial 4 door and my dad had a 1968(?) Chrysler 300 (no letter) 2 door. ;-)

Sorry to see her go, She is an absolute beauty & you've done an excellent job of taking care of her. I will bet driving some of those back roads feels like 'the titanic@ sea' with the huge front bow and enormous trunk space..... "All hands on deck, prepare to come about.."

I grew up in Lincolns & Cads, and as much as I LOVED our Continental Town Car, I've learned that I wish Dad had an Imperial for more than (yes) FOUR days.... I'm not sure this car is bigger than a Town Car, though it certainly looks like that trunk & overhang beat the Cadillacs on space. I DO prefer the "deep-well" trunks on the Lincoln/Mercurys though. I admire Chrysler for KEEPING the wing-windows (in power, of course), and that Torsion-Bar front suspension was always superior to the other two! Plus, they had THREE-speed wipers while everyone else had only 2-speed... Also, while most of the features/options were common among all three automakers, only Chrysler gave you full gauges AND an idiot-light to say, "Hey, look at the gauges, Idiot!" LOL Imperial even had an option for "Fuel Economy" in the Left-Front fender turn-signal, and low-beam WIPERS in the 70's, though finding one is like finding a unicorn - I think their biggest problem was rust... like under your vinyl roof. All things said, thank you for your video!

I had a '73 Dodge Monaco that was loaded. Bought it from a barber for 800 bucks. Rode like a cloud and was very quiet.

So beautyful, especially the 4 Door Hardtop Bodystyle without the B.Pillars, i love it....& The American V8, nice greetings from Bavaria! ;) Ißm still restoring an 67 Chevy Caprice/Impala 4 Door Hardtop, a full restoration of an Ohio car, with rebuilding sheet metal shaped by hand to get new wheel arches at the f.fenders an Quarters, + the whole lower windshield frame and sections of the trinklid weatherstrip channel.....and some more spots....I learned to rebuild/Shape new sheet metal by my hands/myself, with this project and ai´m proud of that craftmanship/to can do that now. I wish more people would do that to safe more cars instead parting "Partscars" out.... Because there will come more, new, young generations who like to get affordabe project cars from places like "Jnk Yards" or something else to restore. And i can tell you how bad it is when the generations before you was doing with classic cars had crushed them and closed the "junk yards"...Because at germany it is done so...And so i can´t tell you how much i would live at usa, especially with all the american classics what you could still find tehre at places like these "Junk Yards"...That´s an big dream in my eyes. I´m 35 years old now and the american classic cars of the era between 1950-1970s are my favorite cars. I´m also working on present muscles, true american style cars like the Dodge Charger R/T or something else like that....What are new true american style cars in my eyes, like it should be. :) I wish Chrysler, GM and Ford would build Mid- and Fullsize 2 & 4 Doors with V8 again, also with body on frame design and even with V8 engine....And the Charger, Chrysler 300C are very good examples for that right way in my eyes. But i they would add the "4 Door Hardtop" Bodystyle withouth the B-Pillars, for example to a Charger/300C that was FANTASTIC! ;) And in my eyes it´s not only a styling part, it´s also s nice and good for a better sight at crossroads what could make that possible to see crossing cars earlyer and better....It´s a big part for sefety!

I used to drive cars with long front ends. When you're at a stop sign you must stick several feet of the car into the intersection just so you can see whether there's cross traffic, and then hope not to get hit. It induces a lot of anxiety. Parking lots aren't a fun place to be either. And you can expect maybe 10 mpg.

Oh the memories of my '73 with the cloth interior.

I remember seeing a lot of imperials in junk yards, not because they were bad cars but because the middle piece that supports the back doors would rust off and break. The only old big sedan I owned was a 67' Pontiac Catalina. It was definetly a big car. When you opened the hood it made the Pontiac 400 Big Block look tiny but it had plenty of power. As for large 70's vehicles I owned a 76' Mercury Cougar, although it was a large car, the inside was tiny.

Thats a nice land yacht! Mopar had the best design just at that era!
