She was heavily criticized in the press for her Sex book, Erotica album and a profanity laced appearance on late night TV. This song was her answering her critics and owning her art. My favorite line is “would you like me better if I was?” If you apologize the critics will just move on to the next thing so you may as well be true to yourself. Awesome reaction 👏👏

Madonna never ceases to amaze. That is why she has been around for this long and has such a rabid fan base. She's amazingly talented and she surrounds herself with even more talented people. She's not afraid to share the stage with somebody they can sing or dance better than her than she can. Because she knows that she has something to offer that they don't. Was the 70's actress that you referred to, Bo Derek?

OMG thank you for your reaction this song is literally EVERYTHING! It was born from the backlash she experienced after putting out her coffee table book of sexual fantasies. The media treatment of her was modern day Joan of Ark! Madonna answered back at the hypocrisy with this hilarious FU!

You were thinking of Bo Derek from the film '10' (which is hilarious, btw!). Both song and video are fire! Once you see the videos for 'Justify My Love' and 'Erotica' you'll get more of the context as to why she put out this video and song. Madonna weaves in and out of different genres throughout her career with much success and still remains true to herself. Also, her concerts are the best in the biz.

To truly understand the song and what she's talking about you'd have to watch her two previous music videos for Justify My Love and Erotica. In 1992 she released her SEX book alongside her Erotica album and they created a media storm worldwide. It was literally a cultural reset. Madonna has always been a pulverising figure but with those releases she pushed the boundaries beyond their limit and people were coming for her. That's an understatement to be honest. It was a full on witch hunt. She has since stated it was a dark time in her life but one she doesn't regret. She considers Erotica one of her favourite records and some of her best work. I love Human Nature as her response to all the naysayers but also because she was having fun with it. After all these years it's still a dope track.

Recommendation: start from the beginning so you will understand the content of the songs. You jumping around and not really comprehending the cohesiveness of her artistry and why she did it.

I think you petty much understand the gist of the song (lyrics) and the video. Madonna has always been ahead of her time. If you don’t understand the woman behind the music, you won’t ever understand the “artist”, Madonna.

This is from the best album she ever did and the last album she made for almost a decade that appropriates various black music forms (she returned to it on Hard Candy). This is produced by Dave Jam Hall, who is one of the architects of hip-hop soul (producing a few tracks on Mary's first album, Intro's two albums, and a bunch of other Uptown artists' albums). Fun fact: this was not a hit (reaching only #48 on the Hot 100 and #57 on the black charts), but it's endured more than the other songs from Bedtime Stories like Secret and Take A Bow.

I really like how you described all of it and it's on point!!! The nasty critics never hold back on her but Madonna has the ability to take it and to catapult the sh** back them. Can please react to Keep It Together. This was a hit in 1990 there's only a live video from her Blonde Ambition Tour.

Bedtime Stories was such a great album not only for the songs but for her experimentation. Check out the music video for Bedtime Story, same album as Secret and Human Nature, but totally different.

This is not one of my favorite songs because I'm not into the beat. Thus, i never paid attention to the lyrics or video. It's because of reactors, that I actually started to comprehend the video and lyrics and realize how great it is. I still don't like the beat but the lyrics and more specificially the great choreo/direction of that video... it's awesome.
