This song was everything in 1987. She won a Grammy for Best New Artist around this time. Her star shone very brightly for too short of a time.

A+ for sure. Relatively simple but each detail so meticulously executed. An important performance as it became a sketch for her next tour. It showcases Niki and Donna, her main backup singer/dancers for the next 10+ years. And it's the first time we see her vogue-ing.
@AceM-Reacts4 күн бұрын
Interesting...sounds like this is a glimpse into what's to come!

Love this track. Hearing it for the first time back in 1989, as an outro for this album, it was unexpected, subversive, witty, and, in retrospect, an introduction to Experimental Madonna, who we'd be hearing more from as the 90s progressed.
@AceM-Reacts4 күн бұрын
I agree. The concept and delivery of this track is creative and witty. It cleverly ties the album back to "Like a Prayer," solidifying it as the album’s defining moment.

Yes! A perfect closure for this album!! And Prince again on the guitar!

Cool, I didn't know that. So Prince had a couple recurring moments on the album!

This is legendary! This is the tip of the iceberg though... You'll see her evolution as a live performer soon, she will set the bar for the next show concerts after the Blond Ambition Tour. Nice reaction bro.

Again, you nailed it. It’s an outro/bookend to the album - not meant to be a proper listenable song. You also nailed the humor in it all.
@AceM-Reacts4 күн бұрын
Thanks a lot! I appreciate you watching and leaving that comment. It was a clever close-up and a funny way to lighten the mood after all the heaviness of the album.

One quick point that might be lost on people unless you grew up at this time. Computers were still fairly new when this song was released. There were more glitches with being able to find information. So when she says, "What do you mean it's not in the computer?" This was something people actually encountered.
@AceM-Reacts4 күн бұрын
Interesting! I thought she was suggesting that despite her prayers and confessions, she was still being denied entry into heaven.
@stephen67994 күн бұрын
@@AceM-Reacts I think you are also correct. Madonna songs often have more than one meaning.
@adrianoluz11085 күн бұрын
I was waiting for this!! Yeah it's definitely an outro, not a proper song - I think it's the perfect closure for the album as it refers directly to its opening - not only in the reversed choir, but also the subect matter: she's actually doing a prayer and it fells like its the bedtime prayer and she falls asleep while doing lit - that's why all the chaotic noises - and the guitar (played by Prince himself) over the reversed choir gives the "satanic" vibe to it - but she's entering dream state - 'it's l'ike a dream, no end and no beginning' And I just LOVE how you noticed she's very attached to Catholicism in spite of all the rebellious attitude, I tottaly agree. Actually, one can learn a lot about Catholicism, its moral codes and their subjective implications through her body of work.
@AceM-Reacts4 күн бұрын
Yeah, Madonna seems to have a deep understanding of Catholic doctrine and the underlying attitudes, which allows her to effectively challenge it. She doesn't come across as someone who rebels against religion just for the sake of it. Instead, she appears to be an insider who understands the inner workings and challenges them when necessary.

Let's give it up for Madonna's backup singers, Donna de Lory and Nikki Howard. They bring the choreo and energy needed to support Madonna's live vocals!

I loved it I love how George makes fun of himself. I love how he turned this into a situation that even made him. come up selling more records at least in Europe. I love how he told him in his message that they’re not going to get him down that he’s gonna keep going on. I love George Michael, and I love this video every part of it and how he shows the hypocrisy that people have when it comes to that. It is so true, especially in America. I love it so much and always put me in a good mood

Genesis plays very complex music, especially the early '70s pieces. They get into a huge variety of topics.....historical and contemporary. If you want a real challenge listen to their concept album 'The Land Lies Down on Broadway'. The lyrics are dense and difficult. The story is bizarre. But the music, amazing. For a real work with a message try the video for Phil's 'Another Day in Paradise'.

A complex pop song where Madonna plays different roles and addresses her mother's death and her relationship with her father... "I fought to be so strong, I guess you knew I was afraid, you'd go away too" is to her father. "Learn to forgive me..." she is playing her mother in this line....
