“Meditation is not something everyone should do. If someone is in a depressive state of mind, meditation can push the person deeper into your pain. What’s advisable is practising Pranayama… It synchronizes the breath and the mind, and since you cannot control the latter, you can try and control the former.”
One of the most extraordinary figures in the world of Yoga, Dr. Hansaji Yogendra is not just a yoga master-she is a beacon of hope and inspiration. Her innate curiosity for the world beyond the material led her to the doorsteps of The Yoga Institute, founded by her father-in-law Shri Yogendra, the pioneer of modern yoga.
While she pursued degrees in Science, Law, and even a Ph.D. in Complementary Medicine, her true calling lay in sharing the transformative power of Yoga with the world. She became the director of The Yoga Institute, carrying the torch lit by her father-in-law. A prolific author, she has penned numerous books on the intricacies of yoga for modern seekers, and her television series, "Yoga for Better Living," has brought the practice into homes across India.
Join us as she takes us through her deep knowledge and understanding of Yoga. Prepare to be inspired, and empowered to embark on your journey towards inner peace and fulfillment.
We also spoke about:
. What Yoga Means to Dr. Hansaji
. How to breathe correctly
. Meditation and Pranayam
. The 8-fold path of Yoga

About Humans of Bombay -
Humans of Bombay is a movement that started 9 years ago. We believe that every person has a story to tell and we want to help them tell these stories. In these years we’ve published stories across genres - stories of love, hope, faith, and courage. And through our storytelling, we’ve built an engaged community of over 5M!
Our idea is simple - to strike a chord with our community and catalog the beat of humanity, one story at a time.

I was so moved and serenated by Ma's words that I lost focus on what she said. I was hypnotized. So I had to watch it a second time to fully understand. Thank you very much for bringing this message into my life. I feel as if I am attracting more videos like this since I have done beginners Yoga with Dr Hansaji. I am happy and grateful

Everyone should meditate..not alone but with the guidance of an enlightened master..when you learn abc n everything from a teacher..then why you wish to tread the path of the unknown alone???its egoistic..take the guidance

Very good info! Hansaji nailed it by mentioning the funny modern day exhibitionism of fitness unlike in reality it should be about one's inner state of mind or health! A feedback to the team - The guest appeared relaxed sharing all the info, however there seemed a bit of rush by the host asking for the 7 steps to end the discussion at the earliest. Not sure if there was a time constraint.

Maa, very true about chakra, people who tag themselves as 'true guru' ,initiate youngsters into these practices who don't have even slightest control over their minds and have ended up in weird trouble...😢

Ashtanga Yoga is Yoga with eight limbs not eight steps... Eight Limbs should work together (not separately ) to develop ... Each limb helps other limbs to progress through spiritual path.. This progress can be experienced mentally and physically

Great interview with Hansaben and Humans of Bombay as always. However, real shame on the misleading title about not meditating. Most of the interview is that everyone should meditate with the exception of being in depression and recognising it is the last step yoga. The exception comment features for a few seconds in the whole conversation. So isn’t an accurate or helpful headline to feature.

Good advices, but HORRIBLE interviewer..... she should know the basics of Astanga yoga and the topic.... before she asks questions. If irrelevant questions are asked, it's boring and disgusting and she is exposing her own ignorance.
