Keep in mind accessing the filter though the top is not the only way to replace it. The filter can also be accessed through removing the bottom thumb screws and drain pan.

AMRE Supply So what is a normal amount of water that dumps out of the humidifier to the drain line? Mine seems to be dumping more water than it should. Could this be an issue of a dirty pad?
@AmreSupply5 жыл бұрын
@@MrPhil212121 Its hard to give you an exact number but these humidifiers will emit a light steady stream of water onto the pad. They aren't too efficient which means not all water dispersed onto the pad will be evaporated. For example for every 5 - 8 gallons of water used, only 1 gallon of water will be added to the air (this is approximate). Depending on your location, the humidifier will use and drain more water. In dry environments the humidifier will be more active and you will see more water draining out, more often. Keep in mind with normal use minerals from hard water can accumulate on the pad so a dirty humidifier pad will reduce how much moisture can be evaporated.
@MrBillmedhurst5 жыл бұрын
@@AmreSupply I also noticed when you shut the water off and turned it on, you only turned it 1/4 turn. Mine was out all the way and turning it down seemed to slow the excess water.
@AmreSupply5 жыл бұрын
@@MrBillmedhurst the shut off valve might need to be turned several times. If its a saddle valve then it just pushes a pin into the copper line. Turn it until it becomes tight and the water should stop flowing.

@AMRE Thanks for replying, just barely saw that you replied. So that seems like an excessive amount of water that’s being wasted. For instance the amount of water that is being dumped out of my humidifier is probably 1 gallon every five minutes. Consider that during the cold or hot months where the humidifier is running quite often, my water waste is a lot. I went ahead and unplugged my unit until I can get someone to look at it.

I found it much easier to put the frame into the distributor trough (it grips well) and then drop the whole assembly into the unit. I couldn't get things to align properly otherwise. Also, I always remove the bottom tray and clean it at the start of every season. It gets a big build-up of mineral deposits.

Thanks for watching, we're glad you found it helpful! Its best to replace the humidifier pad once a year, but if the humidifier is running a lot, or calcium or mold is starting to deposit, you might need to change it more frequently. This was one of our first series and when we filmed this we also filed the solenoid repair which requires taking the top off, so we used those steps for this as well. It would have been useful to show the bottom access. We are focusing on in depth appliance repair series at the moment so it's unlike that we will do an update to this series to cover some of these additional details.

Are you able to just clean and place back the clean pad. Or do you have to buy a new pad and replace the old one?
@AmreSupply5 жыл бұрын
Hi Suzy, thank you for watching. These metal looking filters are actually covered in a special clay-like coating. This coating absorbs water and helps filter out any impurities in the water before going into your air. If you live in an area that has hard water, you might notice a buildup of minerals on the pad, which are harder to clean in general. As the minerals build up the pad won't be as effective in adding moisture to the air. You can try cleaning the pad, and see how it goes but keep in mind that if the coating has been chipped away then you know its time for a new pad.

Hi there, we have this so but water is connected to hot water not cold. When it runs In winter time there are 71 percent humid in the house right now and it makes molds and must on the walls. Also water leaking happened in the basement. What would be there problem? Do u know? I totally shut it down for now. Especially when weather goes to -40 windows are going soon watery
@AmreSupply3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching it. Humidifiers can be connected to cold or hot water, it will evaporate and be added into the air when the furnace is running. What you are describing is too much humidity. There is a damper on the side of the humidifier which you can close as much as needed. This will help restrict how much moist air is added into the air that is being circulated when the furnace runs. Try this and see if you can get your humidity down to a level that prevents moisture from accumulating on your walls.

It is a nice video, Just I have a Question, What is the different between the HVAC filter and the air or furnace filter, I have 2 furnace carrier and the app told me about the changing filters ,, but I can not find the HVAC filter. thanks
@AmreSupply Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It might just be semantics in that case. If you have a furnace that also has a built in air conditioning unit, then it would be more accurate to say HVAC filter as the unit is both used for heating and cooling. This filter might be located next to the filter or the air return duct. Other models will just heat (as the unit is not equipped for cooling) so it's more common for someone to say furnace filter.. I have a 1099 general. I have noticed a dripping of money into the drain. Did not notice before. Service time or normal? Thanks
@AmreSupply3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The amount of water dripping is regulated by the humidistat or the furnace. In some cases the solenoid will open and distribute water over the filter only when the furnace blower runs. In other cases the humidistat will turn on the solenoid only when the humidity is low. If you notice a constant drip then the solenoid valve might need to be replaced. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fZyRkpNis8e4fHU.html

@AmreSupply3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome Kamlesh, we're glad you found the video helpful! You are right that the damper is closed during this video. during winter, the damper should be opened. If you find that you need more humidity then open the damper all the way, and close it to reduce the humidity. In some furnaces the humidifier is wired to a humidistat that will control how much water is released by the humidifier solenoid, this gives the most control. In other furnaces, the solenoid is wired directly to the furnaces and will open when the blower fan runs If its wired directly to the furnaces then you have less control over the humidity.

On this humidifer, should the damper be in the open or closed position for the summer time when the air conditioner is running? Right now, I have it in the closed position with the damper blocking the flow of air. Is this correct and then in the winter I move it to the open position? Also, how often should we be changing the humidifier pad? once a year? Thanks James
@AmreSupply4 жыл бұрын
Hi James, thank you for watching! That is a good question. When the air conditioner runs, it also removes moisture from the air. Moisture will make the air feel more warm than it actually is so you'll want to close the damper during the summer, and open it as needed in the drier winter months. The humidifer pad should be changed once a year but if you have hard water and a lot of minerals that build up then you might have to change it more often. Its best to check it every time you replace your furnace filter.

@@AmreSupply Thanks for the reply. I do have hard water. Is there a way to tell if it needs replacing by looking at it? These are great videos you have posted and I just noticed you have a location in Calgary so I'll be able to buy some filters from there.
@AmreSupply4 жыл бұрын
@@pacmancalgary We're glad you're finding the videos helpful and yes our Calgary location is now open again to the public. When enough calcium builds up it coats the evaporator pad and will reduce how much moisture it can add to the air. You'll start to see a white buildup, if its covering a large amount of the pad then that's when you'll want to replace it. Also if it smells stale or extra moldy etc. For a quick peak you can also drop the filter out the bottom by unscrewing the thumb screws. The drain pan will just lower, with the filter.

Hi Bob, the metal frame doesn't really effect the evaporation. There are similar pads of a slightly different size so just be sure to match the dimensions exactly, so you have the same surface area.

Can you replace your evaporator pad with one thats a little smaller than the regular size?

Hi Robert Frendo-Cumbo, as long as the pad still has a bit of surface area, it should still add moisture to the air. Overall it will be less effective but a slightly smaller pad shouldn't make too much of a noticeable difference.
