The key wouldn't come out. Saw your video and took the shifter off, pulled off the plate, jiggled the wire and boom!! The key came right out!! THX SO MUCH!!! You should show the torx screw remover. Some my not know what these are. I initially tried an Allen wrench, then I replayed the video and heard TORX so I grabbed my torx screw removal kit and bingo!! THX

Great help JP! You are a terrific guy for helping others. We need more JP's in this world! I have a H3 but followed the steps and although it looks differently than the H2 it worked the same. Short in the switch.

Good job very common issue also if this doesnt rectify the issue theres a metal release button on the ignition/steering column under the plastics u can push that to release your key. Cheers man great video

This video just help solve my problem in about 3 minutes. My harness wasn't loose but somehow my "pink" wire got cut so added a connector and voila. Nice K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) video without the 10 minutes of information I don't need. 'Preciate the vid 3 years later!

ok helpme JP, so same problem here and more, but the wiring harness that your jiggling, it is suppose to just pinch out so i can change the shifter solenoid? the silver mushroom looking thing its plugged in to, i fought n fought and cant get it to unplug so i can replace other part, and also it sort looks like the wires are not in the right place in the harness, but cant tell for sure until i can get it unplugged, any tricks to getting that little wire harness unplugged, ?

I just had the issue last night except it was the yellow wire broke off from a previous repair. I think i shorted the brake switch trying to figure it out though. After repairing the yellow wire, I had to run a jumper wire from brown ignition wire on the brake switch to the green with black stripe on the switch. Ordered a new switch last night, hope that fixes it.

What dealer you call that said the dead battery will lock the key. That’s happened to me today

Good find. Was this vehicle also only engaging third gear, as well? There are three known culprits for this situation in GM's. That broken wire you showed us, the same wire, but broken at the top of the bell housing, and a bad ignition switch.

I have had the same problem , but also another one with the same kind / the whole system would go dead and the ground on the battery would be just barley loose . and I would just bearly move the ground cable and it wold then start . This might only happen every 3/4 months

It's not the wire. As pointed by another user, its the stickiness inside the cylindrical holder of shifting bar that needs lubrication. As you played with it here, you probably made it to work, giving credit to wire moving. I live in warm environment (So Cali) and notice this to happen with my H2, after return from mountains or when staying in snowing, frozen locations for couple of days and that time of year.
