Glad you posted this. Just had it happen this evening after repair shops are closed. Mine was stuck in the accessory position and I was afraid it would drain the battery overnight. Took like a minute to take off and get the key out. Thanks.

Good explanations, the smaller screw on the bottom is t25 torx but you can disconnect the ignition switch lock solenoid without removing bottom cover.

Do you know if your front wiper blades stopped working since the key got stuck I took mine to the dealership they told me they had to do some rewiring and it fixed it both the wipers and the key getting stuck three months later same thing happens did replacing the solenoid work

I replaced the gear shift cover and the key got stuck. So, I used the Allen wrench and pulled the sift up, put it back down and screwed the gear sift on, and it came right out. I realized the gear shift was not pushed all the way tightly. Also, when screwing the screw back on the handle make sure it is not too tight.

I can see the issue on this video. The shiny button on the shifter does not came out enough. Pull the button fully out and the key will come off. Then 1. try lubricating the button. 2. Replace the spring. Good luck!

Omg thanks bro u saved me.. i couldnt for the life of me get it out and i read ur comment put it ln park, pulled out the button on the shifter further out and it released the key.. i am forever grateful ❤

I never replaced it but I believe it’s called the ignition lock solenoid

Sorry to inform you that I do not have 3 hands that can hold a camera while using my other two. It’s pretty simple I showed me putting the tip of the screwdriver in the hole. I then had to sit down the camera so I could you my only other hand to pull out the black solenoid. It is not a complicated part to remove.

@@offwhiteh3389 That's a poor excuse. Get someone to hold the camera/iPhone, get a tripod or at least video with one hand and point the the part that needs to be released. Showing a KZfaq video of what to do about "releasing a stuck key" is point of this video, yes ?

@@InCountry6970It’s not rocket science my man, if you just look at how lock system works you can get it out. my videos purpose isn’t for people who don’t do their research before working on something. If you look up hummer ignition lock solenoid on the internet you can do your research before treating your car up. what’s a poor excuse is the fact that you use your time to complain in the comments instead of researching how the system works on your own.

Its literally just a clip you push and disconnect, no tools are really needed for this, you do not evem have to remove the bottom part

My key got stuck my issues was gear shift wasn't in park good push up on shiftier in park better my key released

I don't think that is the problem my key gets stuck at times what I discovered was I needed to push up harder on shifter then my key released from ignition mine was in shifter not fully going into park just push up further on shifter

I can see the issue on this video, it's the shiny button on the shifter that not comes out enough. Pull it fully out and you have the key in your hand. The problem is the spring in this button, try to lubricate the button.
