Humminbird MegaLive is new to most of us and like anything else there is a learning curve. This video is based on my first few trips on the water using MegaLive. As with any other form of sonar, settings are like an adjustable wrench and need to be changed for every different job. The goal of this video is to find fish and structure using MegaLive. I visit some familiar areas previously located with side imaging and down imaging. You will be able to compare MegaLive video images to SI and DI images. Various settings will be adjusted to improve ML image quality as well as plugging MegaLive direct into unit versus through the 5 port Ethernet switch. Watch as I go through settings located under the “Accessories” tab after hitting menu, menu such as interference rejection and AHRS to “On Pitch and Roll” to improve MegaLive. Using the MegaLive express menu, MegaLive mode, sensitivity, contrast, down range, MegaLive colours, and persistence mode are adjusted to enhance image quality in this video as well. Unfortunately I only had a few trips out before winter settled in so I was only able to concentrate on fish and structure location. As winter locks in, I will work on lure presentation tactics while ice fishing using MegaLive. Humminbird MegaLive is a complementary addition to sonar capabilities already available. MegaLive adds another piece of the puzzle letting us see into the world beneath the surface of the water in different modes to unlock the puzzle. Join me as I delve into my first attempts at using Humminbird MegaLive.

Thanks Don, there’s definitely a learning curve with all new technology. I am happy with the foundation skills in place and moving forward to lure tracking and using MegaLive to not only find fish but catch fish too.

Hey Steve, really enjoyed this video as well as several others I've viewed! I've learned a lot from watching your videos, numerous times, in fact and I really appreciate you donating your time, effort and experience for us to consume. I am running Solix vs Helix so some of the settings are not identical but I'll continue to research. In particular, I really like the Range Lines the Helix offers but haven't found it on the Solix yet, but will keep researching. Again, many thanks for donating your time and efforts to educate us! Great work!

Those are some very good images 👍 I'm getting more familiar with mine . It can only get better with more time on the water. I have noticed that changing the degree of view can make a big difference in picture quality and the ability to track your bait further out..

Thanks Ryan, one of my favourite sayings is “the only difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra”. Sometimes an adjustment of 1 click, 10 degrees, in forward mode can make a significant improvement. Avoiding the set it and forget it mentality is an important part of getting the most out of your electronics.

This certainly one of the best video on Mega live i found. I am waiting for my mega live unit in the second week of January supposed to be at my house. Ice fishing season on now. What I am interested in is the panoramic or scout view under the my tent or shack.

Working on a shuttle set up for my MegaLive. I will primarily use down mode fishing while scouting with forward mode. I will experiment with the landscape mode as well for scouting around hole.

Hi Steve I have watched a lot of your videos and I certainly appreciate the time you spend explaining all the features that are available and how they operate. Naturally I have to watch several times because there is so much information. For my birthday I just received the Maga live so my question to you is if you could only have one monitor up front would you install it or wait to get another monitor?? If I do need another monitor what would be the minimum size I should buy. Thank you so much Steve for taking the time to share your knowledge a specially for people like me who do not understand a lot about electronics . Thank you

Thank you I truly appreciate your support for my channel! Ideally, a unit dedicated to MegaLive will give you your best image. I use Helix units, Mega Down Imaging+, G3N or G4N, saves a little $, for MegaLive. You get better resolution with a Helix 12 or 15. The 9 or 10 size still works well. It comes down to how much you want to spend and mounting area at front of boat. You could always start with 1 unit up front but budget into your plans, the mounting options for adding a second unit. Try with 1, you can always add one later. I suspect you will eventually go to two units as split screens are more challenging to read. Nobody ever complains about bigger screens. Happy belated birthday and enjoy your MegaLive!

Good morning, Steve I enjoy your style of teaching and have learned a lot from it/you. I have a question for you I currently use my Mega Live on a Helix 9 and I am considering a Helix 12 and the images in this video are wonderful with this being way before the most recent update. I'm at a true crossroads. Do I make the jump to a Solix 12 or stay with the Helix line in a 12? I have also heard Solix and Helix don't work well together. When watching your newer videos I see you are currently running Solix so I think you would be most helpful with an opinion. Any input would be greatly appreciated Steve.
@stevechiassonfishing5876

Thanks for the kind words. The resolution on the Helix and Solix 12 are the same. The main advantage of Solix is the touchscreen. I would get the Helix 12 and save yourself some $. I have done comparisons with the Solix and Aprx but I don’t run either one. All my units are Helix. The resolution on the Helix 12 is better than the Helix 9.

Hi Steve…thanks for the video. Quick question, do you think an Apex unit with its higher resolution capability would give more detail? I wonder also if Humminbird is working on image quality for the MegaLive with the next update. Sure would be nice if they were able to eliminate some of the distortion as well. I have Mega360 already with a Helix 15 and love the images it produces. And I’ll be honest sometimes I think I would be better served purchasing a Garmin unit with their Livescope.
@stevechiassonfishing5876
@stevechiassonfishing5876 2 жыл бұрын
The Apex should be an amazing picture. Humminbird will keep striving to improve image quality for sure. Higher resolution and updates will help for sure. As mentioned in the video, I don’t have the choke on yet plus I am going to upgrade some of my wiring this winter. I absolutely love my Mega 360 and rely on it a great deal!

@stevechiassonfishing5876
@stevechiassonfishing5876 22 күн бұрын
You can power the unit up out of the water but it won’t work unless it is in the water. I always fire up the unit attached to the MegaLive first as it takes a bit to kick in.

Hi Mags, the choke is not on either day. Nov. 24 Ethernet from ML was plugged directly into back of unit. Dec. 14 Ethernet connected through 5 port Ethernet switch.

Lack of target seperation. I have one and that’s my biggest complaint. It’s fine for fish in open water or around structure, but you’ll never see this in a brush pile. Matter of fact, brush piles don’t look really clear. I’ve fished a brush pile thinking it was a school of fish. I had setting really cranked up too and it was hard to differentiate between it being fish or a top
@stevechiassonfishing5876
@stevechiassonfishing5876 2 жыл бұрын
Forward facing live sonar is going to let you see the structure as you know. Seeing target separation within the structure is difficult for all 3 major competing brands. Decreasing the range forward is the best way to see target separation.

What mount do u have your 12's on? I don't have a Ethernet 5 port, I'm direct in a Helix 12, what is taught between both ways, it's to cold for me here to get out & try mine
@stevechiassonfishing5876
@stevechiassonfishing5876 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, I had a custom mount built for me Tritown Tool in Cambridge by Jeff. I am not sure what you mean by what is taught between both ways? Do you mean direct vs 5 Port Ethernet switch? Many are recommending going through 5 Port Ethernet switch to help avoid interference, helps sequencing of units networking together. Others are saying it doesn’t make a difference. I wish I had more time to definitively answer that question. My picture did seem clearer going through 5 port Ethernet switch. The Nov. 24 images did not go through switch. I also didn’t use the Interference rejection on the 24th so that adds another variable. Either way works, I would definitely try it without and see what you think first. Hopefully that helps answer your question.

Did u install the choke
@stevechiassonfishing5876
@stevechiassonfishing5876 2 жыл бұрын
I have not installed the choke simply because I don’t have it. I will definitely install it when I get it. A good way to test whether or not the choke will make a difference is simply to take the charger leads off for the day and run your MegaLive.

The only time I have had freezing issues was when I did not do the MegaLive installation properly. This is in the accessories tab at the top go under MegaLive. This topic is addressed in my video which I have linked below. Also, unit updates have helped address the freezing issue. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q96ThMqAlpiygJc.html
