Our Ecuador hummingbird photography adventure took us to visit Refugio Paz de las Aves where I photographed the beautiful Empress Brilliant hummingbird for the first time. We visited his famous lek of the Cock-of-the-Rock and watched him call out and feed a Giant Antpitta. We next visited "The Birdwatcher's House" to photograph lots of beautiful hummingbirds, including the shy Hoary Puffleg, the Gorgeted Sunangel and the Speckled Hummingbird.

So interesting Carole. I really love the Empress Brilliant and the Hoary Puffleg is a cutie. I would be in 7th heaven if I had 37 species of Hummers here!! I can't even imagine!

Another great video Carole. All of the hummingbirds are gorgeous of course. I like the Gorgeted Sunangel and the Violet-Tailed Sylph. Can't wait til the next video adventure.

Hoary Puffleg - funny name right? Actually, 'Hoar' means grayish white; gray or gray-haired with age. Possibly a color name many have not heard of before.

Its coloring DOES make it look like an old, graying hummingbird!

The Empress bird is a longer one, is that one of the reasons she is called Empress?
