We were witness to a humpback whale rescue this afternoon. Unfortunately it was a whale that we knew, named Ivy in the South West Humpback ID Catalogue. The Penlee Lifeboat crew were able to expertly manoeuvre their inshore lifeboat, to allow crew members to cut the ropes, in pretty difficult conditions. The whale was last seen heading off, blowing strongly.
