This Wally video is awesome! Hi, I work for The Dodo and we are working on an amazing video on Wally’s journey around Europe and how everyone banded together to make sure he was traveling safely. Wally has quite small tusks and could very well be a lady walrus. One of my favorite animals, but the genders are hard to tell apart.

Wally was most definitely a male. He displayed proof of that quite clearly while we were watching him. 😉

Wally is young male, about 3 to 5yrs old. Their tusks don't reach the adult size before they're at least 7 The young female, "Freya" residing now in marina near Oslo, Norway also has these small "toothpick" tusks. She's supposedly an year or two younger than Wally

@@autumnrosalie1167 Like with most other mammals, example their head shape varies between sexes. And males' tusks are thicker and more "bulky". Old males also have large bumps in the skin in their neck

1:23 correction: she says "its a walrus not a seal" when in reality the walrus is the largest of the seals. The smallest of the walruses are considered smallruses. Fact check true

I don't try to sound like a nitpicker, but Southern Elephant Seal is the largest species of seal. Southern elephant seal bulls can reach a weight (3400kg) that's over twice what biggest Pacific Walrus bulls (1500kg) can weigh. Compared to those, Wally is still a smallrus 🤭

That's so awesome! We heard that he'd been bothered by lots of people and struggled to get the rest he needs so he can manage the huge journey back to the Arctic - let's hope people get the message to leave him in peace and he gets home safely!
