Good info. For those interested in adding another line, I tend to look for cards with rewards in categories that have not been met.

Something I'd note about the last tip (which is a good tip) is that while another credit card will decrease your credit utilization, it's important to remember that credit utilization is viewed both individually and collectively for your credit cards.

I ruined my credit in my early 20’s doing early 20’s things, took me into my late 30’s to get it back on track. Wish I knew these tops when I was younger, even now I still am learning how to build it. Thanks Humphrey.

Great advice 👍 ... One thing I notice for me was that credit line increase was quicker when taking cash withdrawals and paying back next due date.. especially my Discover card.

I just started gaining or increasing my credit score five years ago. Great video! I am already explaining some of this to my son since my parents never taught me about it.

Actually the last point about too many credit cards is kind of important and I think there is a caveat to it. At one point I had around 17 credit lines open to boost my credit score, as number of credit lines is a parameter that impacts your credit score. But the important aspect is to keep your credit utilization low (not always possible), but I was very aggressive in building credit and given that my oldest credit card is less than 8 years old, I had to really maneuver to currently have a credit score of above 800 and nearly 75k credit limit. All with a 20000$ annual salary. I guess I should make a video regarding that.

So many people recommend authorized user but chase charges $75yr a user. Saw that too late. And just because it’s $0 annual fee doesn’t mean they won’t charge a service fee. With chase it’s $20mth

I would like to know how to calculate the credit usage limit on a credit card

If you pay your credit card in full before statement close date it will be reported as 0% utilization, would this be better than paying the balance off and leaving some like 3% before statement close date?

Nice video. I'm a little confused about whether opening a new credit card would improve my score. Yes, it lower credit utilization and increase on time payments, but wouldn't it also lower the overall credit age result in a hard pull? Another question: what credit score do you need to be approved for most credit cards? Would a 700 be ok or do you need at least a 750?

I did know about the authorized user part, except i didnt know you can add someone under 18 on your card, as soon as my is old enough she will be added and taught how to manage their credit.

I’m lucky enough to have a good job and situation where my credit score is above 800. But your advice is very good for anybody trying to set themselves up and get to that level. I would suggest NO MORE THAN 2 credit cards…the temptation is just too much for some (most) to handle and try as hard as you can to pay as you go. If you do have an open balance keep to no more that 10% of your max card balance…that’s very important. And pay your bill ON TIME!!!

Humphrey, my mom has terrible credit. I have pretty good credit. If i add her as an authorized user (but never give her a card), will it hurt my credit? I was thinking about adding her to my Discover card.

Hey I’m new and I was wondering what I should do if I ruined my credit bc of what they consider delinquency and I’m on my own so I can’t get any help from anyone else’s credit reporting or get a new credit card.

QUESTION: If I'm added as an authorized user on someone else's account and they MISS a payment, will it effect my score as well? You said of they're doing good on their payments then it will positively effect my score. But what if they do bad? Will mine go down as well?

Most of my debt is from school loans. How badly does that impact my credit? My repayment record is excellent, but the total owed is so high...

So if I'm understanding correctly, credit utilization is calculated once a month and is based upon how much credit you use/limit. However, if you pay off credit cards, then its near 0%? Is credit utilization only on balances that arent paid off?

Do I have to stay as an authorized user forever, or is there a point where I’m able to get taken off without it hurting my credit?

My due payments are every 28th. I payed it off on the 25th. Can I use it again after I payed it for the month? Or should I wait after the due date and use it then. Doing this will it affect my score ?
