Oh My!! That sounds so cool. I am in Atlanta and consider it astounding that I could even see 2 (!) at the feeder at all! They stayed for maybe 15 minutes total, darting in and out of the bush to sip. They are so amazing. I guess lucky to have any at all but living in a place where they are more populous would be so excellent. Thanks for sharing that.

Who cares what they think. You're doing the right thing helping these lil gentle and beneficial Hummers out. As far as them being territorial, ALL nature has a hierarchy. They're just fine AND so are you. ✌🙂

The hummers at my feeder probably burn off the energy they just took in by squabbling with each other. It's still early spring so hopefully they'll relax once more flowers are blooming. So far no more than two have shown up at the same time. If it gets more congested, I'll add another feeder.

And doves sign of tranquility positive energy is easily recognized by all of natures critters , 🤔✌️👍💪🙏😸🌎🖖💙

You are so right! People are always saying aww they are so cute. Which they are. And then I tell them how vicious they are when dive bombing and body slamming their rival!!

Robert S yeah, i only see the girls share, and that's very infrequently. i recently added a 3rd feeder and that quieted them for all of two days. no fights. but "peace" didn't last long. we call it the Hummie Hunger Games ;-)

KingTesticus They are tolerant because it seems that all of them are plenty of food.

The Ruby throats are what we have here in Missouri and they are very territorial. I can't help but laugh at them dive bombing each other while I set on my porch and watch them

I had 4 feeders and they still fought quite a bit, pretty spectacular dogfights in the air.

I have 3 feeders now, and they still fight--maybe it is their nature. They remind me of teenagers ;->

I had one buzzing me every time I would sit in my backyard There was a feeder there when I moved in but not used. My mom is totally into hummingbirds and was visiting me. She pointed out what this male anna was doing buzzing the feeder and then coming within inches from my face. So I started the one feeder. What a bully so I put another up. Weeks later I had 11 feeders and could watch 7 feeders from my favorite spot in the yard It gave me something to do with my old broken fishing poles they make great hangers. The next year when they came back OMG is was awesome and then I moved I gave away all my feeders to my neighbors to keep my hummers in the hood. I seriously loved them and just smiled every time I saw them. I had one that if I went thru my back door and out the front he would here the door and buzz my face as I came down my stairs When I changed my feeders out I would be at my table and what a ruckus it was until I re-hung them. This one perched really close to me trying to defend the 7 feeders I could see to no avail. I also could raise my arm up and down and he would go straight up and the dive at me then returning to his perch I swear it was like having a pet do a trick.

I hadn't noticed them until one buzzed past my head as I sat on my patio. I put feeders out and there are 4 now. I can spot them perching in the pine trees. Hubby has now started watching them

John ... I put one out every year (in the NE) on my patio about the third week in May. Occasionally, they get up north a bit earlier. They "announce" their arrival by hovering just outside my kitchen window for a few days!! I read somewhere they live perhaps five years if they're lucky. Once I put the feeder out, they stop hovering. I swear they must know who puts it out for them. Several years ago, my wife insisted on painting the patio ceiling to brighten it up while I was at work. She wore a bright blouse covered in almost fluorescent red flowers, and each time they came to the feeder, they tried to "access" the flowers on her blouse. lolol

Thanks, I enjoyed your comments. Here is another interesting experience. I used to travel some so we made the decision to take down the feeder because there was nobody to tend it. It was a couple of years later that I decided to put one up again. It was in the middle of December and we had not had a feeder up in years. But within thirty seconds after I put it up it up and stood under it to admire it, WE GOT OUR FIRST CUSTOMER! I since asked those at the Audubon Society about feeders keeping Hummingbirds from migrating, and they said no, if a hummingbird is to migrate it will, feeder or not.

There was an article in a Sunday newspaper some years ago regarding a small island and another area on the southern edge of Lake Erie, either on the northern edge of Ohio or Pennsylvania. They had a series of photos of people who resided there who had put up a number of feeders. it was a stop-over point for hummers flying north into Canada, providing nourishment for those who had to fly across the lake. Every spring and late summer those feeders were swamped with hummers on their way northward, then returning south for the winter. It would have been interesting to BE there when the swarm arrived. They are extremely territorial, so the most I have had visiting my feeder were five -- two males and three females. They learned how to be clever and avoid the dominant hummers. I hung the feeder under the roof of the patio out of the rain on the support beam for the roof. Although they are impossible to identify physically, except for gender, you could identify them by their habits, so I instantly knew they were not the same individuals. One male would always perch on the cable wire leading to my house, guarding the feeder and attempted to chase others away. He always fought with the other male and wouldn't allow him near, then return to the wire. All three females learned to fly in very low from the opposite end of the patio so they wouldn't be seen. One female would always fly around the feeder in several circles before she lit on the feeder. Another female, knowing the male was on that wire, would sneak in and go directly to the feeder. The third female, if you or anyone else were sitting at the table, would always fly up to your face first and hover about 12 inches away from your nose for a few seconds before she approached the feeder. Obviously, that one was my favorite. lol .
