The Hungarian Folk Tales stem from original folktale collections, every episode has its special authentic ornamentation. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes.

In his big trouble the king promises to give her daughter unborn to the devil. The devil takes along the poor princess at her age of 15 to the hell but the girl escapes from there with Johnny’s help then they get married.

The makers used the decorative art of a certain countryside region at each episode. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes, which have unique imagery, sometimes spicy folk humor in the dialogues. Thanks to the natural presentation of the storytellers, and the music of the Kaláka band, the viewer can experience something unique and special.

The pig could have recognized its girl from her smell or voice - she would have been familiar to the pig, new clothes wouldn’t make a difference. But the devil had never met either girl, so didn’t know if she was really the princess or not.

Well, imagine, these are stories told over hundreds of years by the folk, giving names to each and every one of the characters would just be unnecessary, since the stories would also change with each re-telling, therefore names would be changed or lost, if there were any in the first place. Of course, there are stories about specific people in history, like famous kings and such, but they are sometimes overexaggerated. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas!

Common Themes in Hungarian Folk Tales: + Cunning and Guile are good qualities + Magic + Talking Animals + Kindness towards Strangers is always rewarded + Princesses marrying poor boys + Princes marrying poor girls + Legalistic Kings who keep their promises regardless of how annoying + Arbitrary Kings who execute their subjects over trivial matters + When the Princess gets married, the King abdicates and gives the Crown to his son-in-law + Bird Songs that make Kings immortal

All folk tales have a pattern like this. If you ever get to read "The Blue Fairy Book" and keep going through all the different colors, the stories get very repetitive after a while. I think this is probably due to stories being passed on orally for a long time; stories could mutate into different tales based on the whim of the teller.

Hell in hungarian tales can be a pretty flexible reality, where even the multidimensional entities can be easily confused, if you suddenly decide to turn yourself into a crop field or something like that. Or maybe its just because the elements of the tales have simbolic meanings. Cause actually not only hell is having this kind of flexibility here. Sometimes it looks like hungarian folk tales wouldn't handel the different densities of reality as separated layers. Thats pretty much like the ancient vision of people who spoke about the great spirits of the wold etc. - that kind of stuff is mixed with some spiritual morals in the hungarian folk tales. In the most cases its not easy to riddle them with the left hemisphere. But yeah, it was funny though! :D

It's so awkward and funny to see two couples turning into a church and a priest, then later on a devil-servant approached them for inquiry. These couple reminds me of the Magic Twins from the DC animated series Superfriends from the '70-'80s.
