In this new episode "Hiking Mt Ka'ala to B24 Airplane Wreck", me and couple of my ex military friends going to a journey to visit an old B24 Bomber airplane wreck called Evelyn. This bomber crashed in 1945. Unfortunately all the 12 crew members died, but the army from Schoefiled Barracks took the bodies out next day of the crash.
After more than 70 years the wreck is still holding tight to Mt Kaala.
The journey to visit this site is not an easy one. Please DO NOT ATTEMPT this hike, if you are not in good physical shape, have no orienteering skills, and if you have no idea where this wreck can be found.

That was a really interesting video. Thanks! I’ve seen the crash on Aiea Loop trail, though it might be completely covered by now. I’ve never been to this one.

Thanks Bryan! Yes, the one at Aiea is a good one, another one is in Moanalu Valley, which worth a visit too. This one is my favorite one though!

@@HungaroExplorer I haven’t made it to the Moanalua Valley one either. We were starting to hike out to it a few years back, but my friend sprained her ankle, so we turned back. I heard there is one by the Pali Lookout as well, but I have no idea where to look.

The trail is very interesting but can be tricky. Not a lot of people go there, so the vegetation takes over quickly. Navigation is key!

Nice video. To those who aren’t interested. Evelyn was the name of the B-24. The crash claimed the lives of all 12 of its crew. Recovery efforts got to the site a day later coming up from the Schofield Barracks Forest Reserve. I hiked down to the crash site to pay my respects after reaching the top of Mt Ka’ala back in June 2021. The hike to it can be dangerous to those who aren’t in great shape and experts at traversing natural obstacles that natural Hawaii provides on its sharp spurs on Oahu’s tallest mountain. It could also be dangerous given the weather conditions and no cell signal. If you don’t have the intentions of visiting the crash site to pay your respects and if you aren’t familiar with Oahu’s mountains and terrain or if you’re not great at tracking then please refrain from hiking down to Evelyn. Happy trails.

Are there instructions or a map on how to get to the wreck?
@HungaroExplorer
@HungaroExplorer 3 жыл бұрын
No. It is not really a public site, so you need to know somebody who knows the way or you need a guide who will take you there.

Hey! Nice video! What kind of pants did you wear on this hike? Thanks!
@HungaroExplorer
@HungaroExplorer 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I love my long pants from Decathlon. They are called Forclaz I think, costs only 40$. This way, I don’t feel bad destroying them in the Hawaiian overgrowth :). They hold up very good too!
