It's interesting to see how close Depp's interpretation was and he bloody nailed it. The only difference I can see is that Hunters voice is a bit deeper 😁

Wow, Depp really nailed Hunters tone and cadence in the way he talks. The sort of short bursts with long pauses.. I can't recall seeing any Depp interviews before he did Fear and Loathing but it almost seems like he just kept talking that way because he liked it so much 😂

Depp has no identity or personality so he just takes bits of characters he's played n mashes em all together lol you mostly see Jack Sparrow but he definitely apes Thompson all the time

That is the damage from excessive alcohol and stimulant drug use it produces a characteristic speaking pattern. Short bursts with long pauses.

100% agree. Depp has only been playing some variation of that character for the last 25 years. Thompson was clearly such an infectious personality.

At the end of the day, the dude was just a writer aspiring to the next great American novel (damn that Fitzgerald). People built up a mythos around him, but all he wanted was to shoot his guns and write some fuckin' books.

@ryanmuth8954

Absolute, total misunderstanding. That's the reason Hunter was so annoyed with the interviewer in this video who apparently thought the same way. Hunter was not the character he created in his books, but mooks wanted him to be. They wanted him to dance like a clown for them. Do drugs. Say crazy things. And he would oblige them a lot of the time. But while Hunter absolutely did like to do drugs, the fact that people only wanted him to be a caricature was irritating to him.
@ericconnor8419
@ericconnor8419 Жыл бұрын
@@ryanmuth8954 He became a caricature of himself because he took far too many drugs for far too long. He started as a journalist pretending to be a drug addict, and he ended up a drug addict pretending to be a writer. Most of his later output is trash, that is usually when writers peak. Fear and Loathing is a masterpiece, Hells Angels is good, the rest is mediocre with small flashes of genius.
