The XC Hybrid Controller delivers extensive power without the plug. Built with efficient water management features, the XC Hybrid operates DC-latching solenoids using solar energy, ambient light, or battery power. XC Hybrid can also be powered with a 24VAC plug-in adapter using DC-latching solenoids. Ready for both indoor and outdoor installations, the XC Hybrid is available in 6- and 12-station plastic or stainless steel models meaning it’s the right solution for a wide range of residential and commercial applications including residential areas, parks, gardens, roadway medians, and roundabouts. With ‘Easy Retrieve’ memory backup and on-board, non-volatile memory, you’ve got the assurance to recall all of the controller’s watering programs.

What type of battery to use. Would have been useful mentioning that piece of information.

@FreeManIraq58 Goog point, thanks for mentioning this. I'll pin this comment to the top for other viewers. This controller required Six (6) AA Batteries.

I wish there was a way to get this controller to activate two solenoids at the same time. So far I have been unable to accomplish this when hooking two wires together at the solenoid or hooking two wires together on a single zone. Please advise.

I have not tried this, but from a power perspective, this unit should operate 2 DC-latching solenoids at the same time. I say this because the controller is capable of operating both a Master Valve + Zone Valve, which is the same as operating 2 zone valves. To rule out any wiring issues, I would remove 2 solenoids, wire them together, and then wire them directly in zone 1 at the controller. DC Solenoids have polarity, so be sure to wire red/red to Zone 1, and black/black to the COM. Best of luck and let us know how it works out for you. -Andy

@@Andy_Humphrey - I’ve attempted connection both wires at the solenoids together as well as attaching two wires if the same solenoid together at the controller and still can’t two control valves to come on at the same time together. I don’t want to have to excavate it the valve box and reconstruct the irrigation lines together to accomplish this. There has to be a way? Any additional thoughts would be appreciated. (I’m using an XC Hybrid controller) Thanks.

What is the reason for needing 2 to operate simultaneously?
@notewriter910

@@Andy_Humphrey - I currently have 12 sprinkler heads watering my lawn, being operated by 4 separate valves which takes forever. (e.i. three sprinkler heads on each valve station.) I want to operate 6 sprinklers at once operated by only 2 valves at the same time and the other 6 heads operated by 2 valves also at a different time. Having four separate valve stations takes forever to water everything. Water volume and pressure isn’t an issue at 70 psi.

It’s possible the output power from the terminal is different (not enough) to engage 2 latching solenoids, vs an AC powered controller. Is there a specific reason you need a battery controller? Another option would be to switch all (or 2) of the valves to something like the Hunter NODE, and program them concurrently. If you have a spare wire you could add another controller, and program it concurrent with the other controller. With 4 zones you have options 👍

Do you have to reprogram after the old batteries are removed and replaced with fresh batteries?
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 3 ай бұрын
No, the programming is saved within the non-volatile memory. You will only need to reset the time & date.

Great Info!! I need this as I dont want to replace a 100' of underground wires!!! 🤮 I use the lawn genie brand valves, which solenoids do I need please? thanks

For Battery controllers you will need a DC Latching Solenoid. Solenoids are specific to every valve, so you will need to find a Lawn Genie version. I believe LG is an re-labeled Irritrol/Toro product, so depending on which model valve you have, try and find the equivalent Toro/Irritrol version.

I understand it’s a hunter controller but I have rainbird valves can I just use my rainbird dc latching solonoids for this hunter controller?

Because I use a leittt 4000 solar controller and it only uses DIG Lema 1600 solonoids and it’s such a hassle to have to use so many different solonoids I would rather stick with rainbird but rainbird does now use battery’s like this hunter controller
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey Ай бұрын
@@sandia4775typically, yes, solenoids are controller agnostic. But DIG does have special solenoids with their LEIT controller so I will need to check.

Just wondering after it is connected to power with the batteries still in it, if the power goes out will it automatically switch back to using battery power until AC is resorted ? Cheers
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 7 ай бұрын
@gingersmith9176 excellent question. Sprinkler valves require 24v AC power to operate. This means that when there is a power outage, the valves will not operate with this controller - or any sprinkler controller. This functionality is not specific to Hunter. The controller will, however, maintain the programming, date/time, etc. Hope that helps!

Do you need to buy the DC-latching solenoids as well or does it come with it? Do I need the DC-latching solenoid?
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 2 жыл бұрын
Hi James - yes, you will need to purchase DC solenoids separately. This controller will work with any brand of irrigation valve as long as the solenoids are DC. Let us know if you need more info. Happy Sprinkling! -Andy

When installing a 24vac transformer to the xc hybrid do you remove the batteries or have to change anything? Thanks
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 2 жыл бұрын
You don't have to remove the batteries or really change anything. The XC Hybrid is unique in that you can use a 24v electrical power supply and still use the DC Latching type solenoids. Be sure to hook up the transformer using the instructions in the user manual!

According to Hunter, you'll get 2-2 1/2 years of battery life with the XCH-600, 1 year with the XCH-1200, 4 1/2-5 years with the XCH-600-SS, and 2-2 1/2 with the XCH-1200-SS. Hunter bases these battery lifespans on an estimated number of actuations (impulses sent to turn the valves on and off) that you'll have over the course of time. We have an online article on our website that explains this, as well as giving a more accurate battery life span based on the number of actuations you'll have over the course of time. You can find that at this link: learn.sprinklersupplystore.com/what-is-the-hunter-xc-hybrid-battery-life/

I purchased the additional solar mount kit which keeps the batteries charged. I’ve had them now for several years and they work great. Well worth the investment.
