Hi Andy, I really enjoyed and learned from this video! I just picked up a Hunter pressure gauge. Hopefully it will help me figure out why my two end-run nozzles are not fully popping up.
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 5 күн бұрын
My pleasure, so glad you found value. “End-run not popping up” sounds like a pressure problem. You can also try capping off a few of the upstream heads, or changing their nozzles to a very small/low flow rate, to test the theory. Pressure is a pretty big issue that is not recognized by irrigation control manufacturers. If interested, I can send you a wireless unit that you can thread into your backflow preventer, to measure the pressure every 2 minutes and display it in a graph overtime. Just something new that I have been working on.

Spray nozzles are great for watering tight areas if you live in SE FL that has rusty water. They help keep the rusty water off your home, patio, walkways etc because you can control their range very precisely. By the same token, spray heads in SE FL with rusty water are a huge PITA because they clog up with rust sediments in weeks. I wish I could find a way to sprinkle very tight quarters without having to clean my spray head orifices and filter screens every month ☹️

I have a rainbird 1800, the grass is getting too much water in one spot in the yard. I just need to cut the amount of water by about half. How do I do that?
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 10 күн бұрын
If your sprinklers have typical spray nozzles, the precipitation rate is roughly 1 in/hr. You could switch the nozzle to a rotator-style nozzle, and the precipitation rate will drop to about 0.40-.50. That will apply half the amount of water as the other nozzles on the zone. This is generally not recommended because it would result in a potential dry spot, but in your case, it's perfect!

I'm confused about the part where you said you get more friction loss using schedule 40 because the ID is smaller due to thicker walls. But the pipes in the chart are listed by ID size aren't they? So isn't a 1/2" pipe of one type the same ID as another...?

My pleasure, glad it was helpful. This is one of the most common questions we receive from end users. The MP Rotator is heavily marketed by Hunter, EPA, Water Agencies, etc, and it unclear to many that the product is not a sprinkler, it’s a nozzle. Reach out anytime with question. Would love to see your work.

I follow your tips and the light on the Wr-Clik-r never turns yellow. Consequently it’s not pairing with the new wr-clik-tr transmitter. The old transmitter must’ve blown away in a storm before I bought the house. I’m using a Rainbird ESP-ME system and I have the rain sensor switch in the Active mode. I’ve removed power and reapplied numerous times. There’s no 9v backup battery, but somehow it still remembered its zones and programming.. Since the transmitter is new - is my receiver shot?
@ClubbersGuideCanada
@ClubbersGuideCanada 24 күн бұрын
What would you do when it’s time to blow out the lines? I would assume place the head back in place and then revert it back come spring? Could you not just turn the adjustment screw on the head all the way in so that it blocks the water flow (same result as option 2) Ie: if you have some heads In the grass while others are in rocks (or something placed after the initial install)
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 22 күн бұрын
Take the cap off when it’s time to blow it out. If the sprinkler is at the top of the hill, it’ll drain, so you really all need to focus on the sprinklers that are the lowest on the zone.
@ClubbersGuideCanada

What’s the purpose of having an adjustable sprinkler head (screw to adjust distance/pressure) vs getting a smaller head? Ie: hunter, hydro rain, etc If one has a 15’ head already and needs a 10’ should one just adjust the 15’ or get a 10’ head?
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 22 күн бұрын
If the screw that holds the nozzle in place, is tightened down to diffuse the spray pattern, the distribution uniformity is now uneven (for Rotors). Typically for spray heads, you can only diffuse the distance 20% or so. It is best to pick the nozzle for the correct distance; if 10 feet is desired, choose 10 feet. +/- 2 or 3ft is often acceptable, 5ft would be too much.

What devices can be added to a foot valve assembly in a pond to keep debris off the screen and away from the pick up? I have heard of a device that spins using pressurized water diverted from the up stream pump water (similar to how a spin-clean filter system is operated), but cannot find any information.
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 22 күн бұрын
I don’t know specifically, but it is a good idea to keep the foot valve off the bottom. I have seen intakes that resemble a PVC drain pipe with holes drilled in it. I have also seen floating intakes. I’ll try to remember what the PVC drain pipe intake is called, if I recall, it’s on a ski/skid you slide into the water.

The max distance is determined by the wire size. The booster is essentially an extender, and could be mounted next to the Pump Start Relay at the pump, or anyplace before it.

Great video, I'm planning to create DIY system with poly tubing so it can be converted to an unground system in the future. I've been considering 3/4 inch and 1 inch poly due to the distance and amount of heads I would like to install. Would you measure the GPM directly from the spigot or would u recommend creating short hoses for each diameter and connecting them to the spigot to measure the flow after building pressure in the line?

On one of my valves, when I turn it on by controller it makes a whining sound while running. When I manually turn by bleed screw or turning the solenoid the sound is not present. Is this a solenoid issue making sound while powered on? Not a buzzing but a loud whining.
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey Ай бұрын
It’s possible that there is debris under the solenoid so that the diaphragm is not opening all the way, causing it to whine. I’d start there. Remove the solenoid and check the list under it. You may need to remove the entire top of the valve to clean the port properly.
@Andy_Humphrey
