Print is a new zealand heading dog. Strong eyed sheep and cattle dogs like collies, Koolies, heading dogs etc are great. Popular hunting breeds are german pointers, wirehairs and shorthairs. Vizslas can be good, Labradors are underrated. Other pointers, spaniels. Allsorts can be good. Getting the right individual can make training and hunting much easier. I nice calm methodical dog is great for indicating.

Hey mate. Yea 100% deer can be more tolerant to sound than you might think sometimes. And interestingly, sometimes the thicker it is the closer they let you get. It can be something like there are other deer in the area that they often see too so they just think you're another deer coming or something like that. It's definitely something you learn over time through experience. Sometimes you just have to have a go and you might be surprised, even when the odds are stacked against you. When the dog is indicating that keen, and its that close. Have a go.

Nearly fell over a lip of a clearing busting through that stuff, to see two deer staring at me 10m below. Makes sense, they're probably thinking "is that another deer?"

Haha, keep at it man it's good once you know where you're going. Yea he will and all well trained indicating dogs will do that. That's why tracking can be huge. It's a huge part of my hunting especially in areas like the kaimais where it's all bush hunting. Following the dog as they track and hunt deer. You're effectively getting the guided tour of the area by the deer them selves. You're following them from feed areas back to bedding areas through trails that link different areas up and all of that. It's huge.
