Between shore hunting and layout hunting, the length of line we need on the weights varies. In addition, holding the cast weights to wrap up the line without gloves is extremely cold and wet, so if we can avoid this, why not?? Using an electrical cord reel is the answer to this for the weight extensions, and having the sash weights with their own carabiners is a great idea for the amount of shore hunting we do. This trick worked out great and hopefully it gives you guys some ideas for your rigs!

You could still attach the PVC to the walls of litter box. Would leave extra space in the middle for boat anchors, layout anchors, rope, etc. For longlines I leave my anchors attached. I have 25' extra on each end. Don't typically hunt deeper than that and when in shallow just pull it tight. For keeping the extra line tanglefree we use rigemright line that is very pliable. We place the first anchor in the bottom of the slot (12 slot bag). Then place all the decoys in the slots like normal. Then bunch up the line leading up to final anchor and shove into the side pouch leaving the anchor on top of the rope in the side pouch. This makes setup a breeze because every longline starts with the anchor on the side pouch and there is no time wasted finding or clipping weights.

Yeah I’ve done that plenty of times, it works but I like having the versatility and keeping everything separate makes it easier to store back in the barn. I have the Rig Em Right mainline, I love it, but since mine is cut in half I use the crab pot lines for setting the lines in deeper water and then I don’t have to deal with the extra line when we’re shore hunting this way

Love it! I did the “H” cord wraps for my extensions, works well too! I may try the milk crate instead of my 5gal bucket

I have a milk crate with my heavier weights, but having a bucket with a handle on it is much easier for me loading and unloading out of the boat and moving stuff around

The milk crate you might want to cut an put down a piece of plywood on inside bottom of crate that way the plastic on bottom ain’t taking so much stress or crack an break on you. Just a idea man.

Definitely a good idea, I'll see what I've got laying around and throw something in there. I have like 5 of the litter bucket things around so if it breaks it's fine, but the milk crate I have definitely flexes more so I'll throw something in there. Thanks for watching!

That would work with a regular jerk string to I bet for a pond with deep water
