Hunting for seashells can bring such unexpected treasures! I've been beachcombing for a few years now, but surprises are still out there! Today I find my most favorite albino seashell I've ever found. I didn't know how much I needed it!

Dear Sharmon, Your “Well Hellooooooo Beach Friends” just makes my Sunday’s! I love my weekly visit with you. Transports me right from Utah to Florida. You had a spectacular haul this week……my dream shell is a Florida Fighting Conch like the two butterscotch/ caramel/orange-yellow ones you found today. Love the albino and baby’s ear as well. Thanks again, for taking us along….for your splendid narration and wealth of information! Marilyn

Could it be the reason you're finding so many shells is that there are so few tourists? There would have been a number of people on the beach shelling with you if things were normal. I seem to remember after coming down to Sanibel for years that I found more Pear Whelks during the summer months. What a great albino find! Congratulations! 😊

A majority of the people that own homes on FMB (Fort Myers Beach) are not full-time residents. Our population swells in the winter like crazy. Unfortunately, that dang hurricane trashed all the hotels and condos that might provide a place to stay this time of year, so there isn't much back open again yet. I love having the beach to myself, but not like this. Hopefully progress is being made on rebuilding and people will be back this winter.

Hello Beach Angel! I'm so glad to see you tonight. It's been a bad week and I needed some of your joy! Sounds like you've got it to spare! Hi everybody! Glad you're here, too! That burgundy scallop is gorgeous! I'd hate to see the baby that lost that ear! Big baby! I like those pink tellins. Oh, you saved a bare foot from stepping on that jewelbox! That would REALLY hurt, especially if the sharp spine broke off in someone's foot! That poor little used-to-be tree! It looks so sad, but if I had to die anywhere, the beach is as good as anywhere! That dark lightning whelk is so pointed! I never saw one that sharp before! That's a butterscotch colored fighting conch! Wasn't there a tropical storm that churned up the Southern Gulf a little while ago and then went out? Maybe that would account for the extra special shelling...just thinking. Wow!🎉 Hurray on you for the albino cockles! Great sand dollars, too! What a great day you had, Sharmon! The Creator really wanted you to have your fill of shells today! (If that's even possible for a beach angel!) Good idea to check the upper rack line! That sure paid off! An urchin! Hurray! Oh, I do love to hear the laughter of angels! Yours washed over me like a warm wave, comforting my aching soul. A dear friend and "brother" is getting ready to leave this place and my heart is sore for him. His wife, who is my bestest friend, left us at the start of the pandemic and he has been separated from her too long. His brave heart just can't go on for much longer. I'll miss him, but we'll all be together before long. It's almost time to fly away Home! Oh, that is a really beautiful pear whelk! Hard hearted Hannah, you just want to not have to sleep in a tree for all the shells on the bed! Skimmers are so cool! I miss the seabirds so much! Babies are so cute when they start running around on their tiny legs and too big feet! Gorgeous shells today, darling! You're right about the white of the albino shells, it really is a special shade of white. Sorry, Procol Harum! 😂 Much love to everyone from rainy, stormy Tennessee!

I am always tickled at your reaction to finding a baby's ear. Since I live in Tennessee, my closest beaches are in N & S Carolina. I find tons of baby's ears, especially on Folly & Myrtle. Going to Destin with friends next week and hoping the shelling is decent. Still longing for the SWF Beach experience! Maybe someday soon. Meanwhile, I look forward to your videos every Sunday. Happy shelling!

Great finds for any season, this week! Thank you for pointing out that we need to skirt around the birds on the beach. It's their home -- we're the guests! I'm with you on loving skimmers. They're a little easier to disturb than gulls or even terns, so when you see skimmers, you know we're doing a good job of respecting the critters on the beach. I'm pretty sure they are the only bird with that longer lower bill, which is just so cool. When they're skimming, the upper beak stays above the water, and the lower beak dips below, almost looking like they are unzipping the surface of the water. Of course, when they run into a little fish, they snap it right up. :-)
@SWFBeachLife
@SWFBeachLife 11 ай бұрын
Skimmer are also really, really hard to film skimming! They do their skimming thing, get close to me and stop, and then start again. I would have to learn to look like sand to get a good shot! 😂

Wow, what beautiful shells today. The albino cockle was awesome, the Florida fighting conck, the pear whelkes wow they have a lot of color to them, sandollars are just beautiful and big, lighting whelkes are just so amazing, the babies ear was so big and beautiful, buttercups are very nice, the olives are very nice, banned tulips are beautiful, crowned conks have amazing colors to them. Wow, the sea urchin is always so interesting to me. All the shells just amaze me because I am nowhere near an ocean. I would love to spend a week shelling in all the different places I could. Love to see the live critters. That always excites me, along with seeing that they block off where the turtle nests are, and all the different birds and dolphins 🐬. I would also take as much trash off the beaches as I could. I pick up trash in our wooded areas. Some people where I am from, they just don't care. Thank you for a wonderful shelling video. What a great find, your albino cockle! I recently became the owner of 30# of shells (to add to the 27# I brought home from France recently!), apparently from your area. (A bargain at a garage sale for $10!!) Included: lots of Florida fighting conches, lots of lettered olives, a few crown conches, calico clams, a good number of shark eyes, probably 100 small shark teeth, lots of drills (?), some worms, a buttercup lucine, some spiny jewel boxes, and others. And I recognized them because of your wonderful videos!! The trip I had reserved for Sanibel last fall was also wiped out by the hurricane, but now I still have shells. Thank you for all your videos...I hadn't realized you'd taught me so much!

Ilona! My beach friend from the Netherlands! Yes, this trip was quite fun with so many surprises I wasn't expecting. I guess I figure every trip I go on, there is at least one little highlight I can kind of surround the trip with. On this trip I had quite a few! I actually love storms and thunder and lightning - just not when I'm ON the beach LOL! Our summer clouds here are quite impressive. And many people have been asking about the water temperature and I see that July 2023 is the same as July 2020 so here it's the same as always in summer....HOT! Just curious, I remember the video where you explained the reason for better shelling in the winter, due to more wind and winter storms etc. I’m wondering if it’s the same on the east coast since they have bigger waves all the time, is it better over there in the winter too? Just think… if the summer shelling has been this good, imagine how awesome winter shelling might be!

Well here's my theory: all the beautiful shells in my area are being sucked out into the Gulf from all the onshore wind and making their way down the coast to your area.😂 Great finds for FMB! I've only found a single albino GAC and only 1 ever so congrats on that! Thanks Sharmon! Oh and BTW on my trip up north I hooked up with my other favorite KZfaqrs from Salty Reflections! Fun! xxoo

Could it be the reason you're finding so many shells is because of the lack of tourists? The beach, at this time of year, normally would have had a number of people shell hunting at the same time with you, or been out at dawn collecting as well. In the years I've been coming down to Sanibel, I believe that I found more Pear Whelks in the summer months. What a fantastic albino find for you! Congratulations 😊

I suppose it's possible that the abundance is from a lack of other shellers but I mean there are such great shells for this time of year. I guess I'll just have to see how the rest of the summer goes!

I’m here now for my birthday trip! Can I know a landmark near here so I can check it out? We have yet to find any shells besides sand dollars (all alive) in Fort Myers.

@@destinymassey5061 There is no parking at the South end except at Flamingo. It’s a LONG walk from there but totally doable!

Beautiful finds!! I wonder if the great shelling this summer has anything to do with the fact that the gulf/Atlantic water is the warmest on record this year.. I've had amazing luck on Sanibel and Marco this summer as well. Thank you for your videos and always staying positive, I learn something new every week 😄

Someone else had mentioned the water temp and I checked to see what it was in 2020 and it was the same for July so I don't think it's the temps. I think it might be a lack of competition. There is almost no where to stay on the beach so there are a lot less people here. 🥲

@@SWFBeachLife oh heck.. in nz we pretty much have no threats.. can go barefoot in thick Bush and nothing will get you, swim in lakes and rivers safe as.. great whites are on the increase with the waters warming, but that's really it.. 💞

Great colors on the Crowns--even the ones that were in the upper wrack line! Great Baby's Ear (so big!), and Pear Whelks looked perfect; big Lightning Whelks, too! I am curious to know if you will bleach the albino Atlantic Cockle and lose the hinge, or maintain the hinge and possibly leave a part of the shell a little discolored? What is your preference? Either way, a great find, and a fun video. TY!

I left that albino shell exactly as I found it so far. It's outside on my shell station. I think I'll leave it "au natural" for now. I would love to see the outside that super white color too but for now I'm going to leave it as is.

I've seen a few photos of those albino olives, and one is from a very reliable sheller so I do think they're out there. This albino cockle I thought was the cat's pajamas. I'm also thrilled it was in good shape!
