Hunting Great Gray Owl only feet away! Sax-Zim Bog Virtually Live 39: S4E4

Sparky finds some cool things in this episode of Virtually Live from Sax-Zim Bog. Snow Buntings and Pine Siskins have arrived from the north. Then Sparky runs across a bizarre sight...A Muskrat is chasing a Wood Duck around a Beaver pond!. Later a Great Gray Owl flies over Sparky's van and into the bog so he puts on his rubber boots and goes in after the owl. Amazingly he finds it and plops down in the Sphagnum moss to enjoy the show. Eventually the Great Grey comes within 30 feet or so and plunges into the moss for a vole. Wow! Birding and bird photography in Sax-Zim Bog in October.

I just came across your video channel. Really good videos, pictures and stories. Very interesting to learn about the birds and birding community of the northern states especially. The landscape can be similar to what we have here in Scandinavia, but as for bird species, completely different.

Welcome aboard Per! Where do you live in Norway? My dad‘s family was from Melhus/Trondheim area and my mom’s family. It was from Bergen area. And I agree… Some of the boreal forest and bogs look very similar with some species overlap, but lots of different species.

@@SparkyStensaas Funny you mention the Goriila thing Oh BTW . I actually have wrestled a 425Lbs Gorilla true story. I had a somewhat accidental encounter with a 425lbs Gorilla. I worked at a Zoo and was Attacked. I was a young man 22years old when I had my Accident. ( Zookeeper life) Anyway hope to stay in touch . Great Horned Owls and Great Gray Owls are on my list to photograph . Your state is a Great one for wildlife. It's on my bucket list to visit !!!
