Put the pots in water deep enough to still be submerged at low tide

hey mate, love your video and passion. some stuff I do, I'm not a pro but bag out regularly. -the best bait is defiantly fish frames, go chicken if you can't get a hold of fish. -the best spots for crabs are the inlets of creek arms, throw the pots in the dead centre on the run in, it will blow the stink up the system then they use the tide to travel down tide to hit the bait. -the crabs will leave the pot so keeping them in is the main goal, THE BIGGEST DRAW TO GETTING THE DAWGS, DOUBLE WRAP THE FISH FRAME IN 10MM CHICKEN WIRE. heavy zip tie or steel wire tie the frame in the pot. the bustling, crunching and feeding freezing those dagws are doing, gaining more and more crabs in the pots is what draws in the big crabs and the chicken wrapped bait will keep them busy and in there for you to grab them - always throw the pot in bait down, so that the bait isn't exposed to the surface, crabs will claw at the bait and not enter the pot. -spend money on good pots, you are limited to 4 per person but larger better quality traps pay dividends if your not getting croc'd. the bigger the pot the more room inside to allow the big dawgs to move around and reduce them cannibalising before you check them. -best tides are big runs, 2m+ especially after short amounts or rain Some quick things I do mate, I hope it helps, was hard watching you go home with nothing. Hey mate, Love the vids keep up the great work Im also a sugar cane farmer in North Queensland (Mackay) good to see there is some nice cane up there and the farmers are being able to cut it. Also I noticed that you throw your pots on the mud. Try and throw your pots into the water in the middle of the arm you will have a much better chance catching crabs because they see the pot. Also when there are big tides go as far as u can up in the arms and when there are small tides put them in the main channel in the creek. 👍🏻

Hey mate, great videos man 👍. Couple of pointers for crabbing- Crab pots need to stay submerged! Even put in the middle of those little arms so they are covered overnight. The fresher the bait the better! Even go to the fish market to get some fresh frames to make the effort worthwhile. You will catch more crabs on big tides.and even better after a bit of rain. Don’t leave them any longer than 12 hours between checks, they will crawl back out! Ideally check them just after the turn of each tide (6hrs) My usual go to when I leave them overnight is-set them late in the afternoon and pick them up early in the morning. Definitely utilise the tide change times to gauge when you move them or check them. Spread them around the creek to find the hot spots and usually from my experience, when you pull a good one , next time there is another that has moved in. Be careful diving out the front of Mowbray too man. I lived there for 16 years and have seen some big crocs there. Just stay alert and make sure u can see through the water if you going to get in it! The best bait for muddy s is flathead frams that is what i always catch them on or poke 3 holes in a cat food tin and chuk it in the pot that’s what it always catch the muddys on keep doing what you love luke

Hey Luke your best chance is to go out of town and set the traps the way you where doing , also try walking through mangoes when tides out checking hollow tree and crab holes or mud flat

Hey Luke, I feel your pain mate. We've all been there. I think you may have had some pilfering going on. When I was a lad 20 or so years ago in Cairns, if people without crab pots wanted a crab, they would exchange a muddie for a 6 pack of beer. The owner of the pot would come back and there would be a 6 pack in their pot. Try putting the pots underwater, and don't let them soak for so long, less chance of stealing. Hey Luke, If you can find it at a butcher or pet food shop try using Kangaroo in your pots. I commercial crab south of you and that's all we use . Good luck mate. Tony

I would have thought the pots wouldn't be effective out of the water like that. I know the tide rises but I still would recommend setting them deeper.

Look for football size hole on low tide you normally see them on Ben's of the river if you see these holes you know theres some crabs around the holes are made from the burying themselves in the mud and if I put my pots in over night I all ways put a can of tuna with my fish fames only put two or three holes on the can that way there a good scent and oil trail come from it that's what I find works best here in Bundaberg love ya vids keep up the great work

From my experience mate, bad idea to drop pots out of water, even at low tide. Crabs will cook in sun or just dry out. Maybe even get picked off. Crocs love eating muddys. All the best.

Look for little drains coming out of the mangroves to put ya pots and use the freshest bait you can get..

Hey mate, try zip tieing the top openings of pots as this can help with prevention of theft to a degree. Also in highly crabbed n fished areas. Do away with floats n rope drop pots n mark on gps use a small reef pick anchor with just rope tied on to retrieve them. Have your gps zoomed in to max so your on point with pots. Stick to mangrove root lined edges and mudbank edges with good crab holes showing. U will clean up. When neap tides or not much run main creek edges, and gutters,small creeks n systems, big tides up on the mud flats of the mouth of creeks out of the run of the tides. Best of luck champ! Get into the freshwater creeks around Atherton Mareeba area and catch some sooty grunters luke

Love your videos they inspired me a lot to keep fishing but this is just a tip when it rains put your pots out at the mouth of the creeks because they get pushed out by the rain. A really good bait for crabbing aswell this is just my opinion but catfish works as a really well crab bait. Keep up the content.

Best places to put pots are on the flats along the mangrove edges on the shallower side and up in the gutters in creek and in the main creek, buy urself some better pots as those light pots are useless, go to bcf or tackle world and get some heavy duty pots, they are about $50 each or put a add on Facebook and look for someone who makes and sells pots, I was a pro crabber in bundy and I crab nearly every second weekend as a recreational, in summer time the crabs will venture into the creek and as soon as the water temp starts going down getting close to winter the crabs go into there holes and stay there till the water temp comes back up, in winter u will have more success on the flats along the mangrove edges in the shallows or in the main channels in the deeper water, also you will have more luck in the creek in summer time crabbing the gutters and gullys and in the main channel of the creek, also go get urself some bait clips from your local tackle shop and u put your bait on them and clip it to the bottom of the pot in the middle, when you get your self some new pots make sure they have built in bait bags underneath the pot, happy crabbing, if you need anymore tips and tricks just give me a message, I went crabbing on the weekend and took dads mate and his 2 kids crabbing and got 17 legal crabs from 2 checks in the ELLIOT RIVER in Bundaberg, cheers Chris honor
