I drove 4 days to catch mud crabs in northern Queensland in the mangroves, we experienced super high tides and super low tides!! from the north! by the way this was my first time hunting mud crabs
after we caught the mud crabs we cooked up a fried chilli garlic MUD CRAB
with a seafood risotto

Hey mate, hope you enjoyed qld. FYI you cant keep claws of crabs without the crab. Especially female. Also your crab pots must be set below the low water line eg must remain underwater at the bottom of low tide for the exact reason of what happend.

I just subscribed, love your enthusiasm, if you don't already know get yourself a toilet plunger it makes it easier to hold the crabs down so you can grab the swimmer legs

Too bad you did not get more crabs.. The LARGE MOLARS on the claws will indicate that the crab is mostly "EMPTY" as it has just recently moulted..A very good meaty male crab will have blunt molars and the back cover will have protroded edges. The base of the crab will have PRONOUNCED deep channels.. As you can see from your cooking the crab claws meat was very small relative to the nippers.. Hope for better chances next time.. That place could be full of crocs.. Be careful!
