In this video I share some of my strategies and tactics for hunting on the ground using only natural cover and sometimes a seat or chair. I have been very successful over the years hunting from thick cover and downed trees or tree tops near food sources, pinch points or heavily used trails. By using the information contained in this video I know you can be too.

Great video, Im 61 and have some physical limitations that have forced me to change how I deer hunt. Ground hunting using natural cover is the only way Im able to hunt now. I hope you keep posting video's that help us senior hunters enjoy our time in the woods and stay safe doing it.

I've been a ground hunter for most of my life, (gun and bow), and I'm 67 yrs old now, and I still do it that way because I love it. I've had the opportunity to try out many different types of hunting seats over that time period, (especially since I used to sell hunting equipment back in the day), and I finally found one that I really like a lot. In my opinion it's the best one out there-period! Especially if you're a mobile hunter. It's lightweight and comfortable, but most importantly it's dead quiet in any weather. I've used it in temperatures that were in the single digits, and it never made a squeak even when you shifted your weight on it. I've never had a seat like that. You guys have to check one of these out. It's called the "Ground Effect," and it's made in the USA by 03 Outfitters by two Marine Corps veterans.

Thanks for sharing those tips ! it's always good to learn some new tricks from guys that hunt on the ground . I definitely want to do more ground blind hunting this coming year i'm not getting any younger , I typically hunt from tree stands but maybe breaking it up a bit would be nice and a little bit easier than caring your stands into the woods , thanks again for sharing you tips, good luck in the deer woods.

Great video! Please do more of these. I primarily hunt off the ground in natural cover. The issues I run across frequently are access and how aggressive the set up is. It would be great if you can do a video showing a ground set up, your acess to and from, what frequency you’d expect to use that spot and why. Thanks!!!

Enjoy your podcast, but this is the first time I’ve run across your KZfaq channel... heard you mention it on episode 111. I found this video super helpful. Thank you. Keep making them!

Love the video, I have been hunting with a traditional bow for 10 years. I have seen an abundance of info on shooting form, split finger vs 3 under, gear info , tabs vs gloves , bow styles & designs, etc etc but there seems to be a shortage at least from my experience on how to actually hunt and set up using a traditional bow, which is again in my experience totally opposite of compound hunting. Hope you continue with this type information.

Good content. I have found that a pair of pruning shears are the trick for trimming in the switch cane. I also use 3 or 4, 2 1/2 foot pieces of painted PVC pipe to put cane in front of me where I need it. I carry a hank of Jute twine or rope with me just to bend over or tie cover in place for future hunts. Good video.👍👍

Kudzu is an invasive plant similar to ivy, introduced early 20th century, for livestock and ground cover/erosion prevention. Kudzu is an unusually hardy plant of the Fabaceae family. Cutting, mowing, burning and tilling do not completely eradicate it from an area. Rapid growth and resistance to disease makes it difficult to eradicate in one operation. Yes , I know what it is

Very informative. Thank you! I’m looking to do some out of state hunting on public land & don’t want to have to lug in a blind or tree stand. When gun hunting, do you find that blaze orange with a camo pattern (like your vest) is better than solid orange for breaking up your outline?

Honestly I don't rely much on my clothing to break up my outline. I do not even remember buying the vest I have on in this video but I can almost guarantee you it was on sale and the camo pattern had nothing to do with my purchase. :)

Here in Georgia, there are lots of venemous snakes in the woods; would you avoid getting into that thick downed tree and brush because snakes might be in there? Being a new hunter, I want to know if snakes are a concern of yours when choosing where to set up?
@TraditionalOutdoors

Not really, though I have had some close encounters with snakes because of this. I keep an eye out for them but do not let a concern of snakes dictate where I set up. The only time I have avoided a natural setup because of natural occupants was due to a large Yellow Jackets nest near a stump and a fallen tree. Hate those little devils!

I’d love to hear what your using for a seat if using one at all? I’m considering a Waldrop pac seat, just trying to justify the cost.

A bit too late on your negativity there bud, already taken whitetails from these spots with a longbow since the video was made. But so kind of you to show your lack of skill or knowledge.
