I have a really hard time when certain people speak, with them keeping my attention. Struggled through school and have had it happen a lot in life in general with people. If I would’ve had teachers speak like Robert, my experience with school would have been alot more interesting. I can sit here and watch these video’s for an hour. It’s just weird how some people have the natural way to explain things in a way that makes you pay attention and keep you interested. The details and the little things, like talking about the old preachers homestead as he’s walking. Another Great video ! 👍🏻👍🏻

Good video Robert! One point I would like to make is that if you don’t have trees to block the deers eyes when you draw, i have found, it is imperative that the deer’s head must either be turned away or if passing by, wait until it has gone past and the eye on your side is not visible. It seems that if you can see the eye, it can see you!

Mr Carter, first this is my first comment of any video, I've enjoyed lots them, but this year, I've enjoyed all of both yours & Chris Spikes equally well, live the way you'll hunt, acknowledge our Lord! I've even had Mr Womacks video now for near 20 years. But I do have to say, yours has helped me more than any I've ever seen! I'm 63, Been thru every kind of health problem, vision, that can go wrong since 2009, to turn me from a perfectly confident traditional shooter, to destruction. But I'm back, Lotta thinks to your inspiration of what's important! But, my main reason is today, I'm a total ground hunter, and love what your doing with this, where you going! Looking forward to seeing any game with that Hill style bow on the ground, carry on!

Hi hi! Thanks for the vid! Can't wait for that new little chair or seat or whatever that may be coming up. Your review. And possible purchase from the guy. Enjoyed the discussion on "Shine" or "Bright." I do not camo my draw hand near enough. And to get rid of anything bright. Loved the discussion on the fence post from the pastor's property, now yours. And I thought more on sitting in front of the trees and a little brush in front of that. I would be more like sitting behind them. But need to change or address more. Can't wait for the next one. 😉 Blessings.

Another great video Mr. Robert! I look forward to the next installment on ground hunting setups. The deer's attraction to where you clean out the leaves around your hunt tree reminds me that I've heard deer were attracted to freshly turned earth. With that said, I think I'll just take my boot and scratch out a spot 12 yards in front of my setup in the perfect spot to take a clean shot. Maybe two or three spots so I can try to put the deer where I want them. God bless!

Excellent video Robert! I also hunt from the ground, and have done well doing so! Adding to you covering your face, takes me back when I learned to do so! I got lost squirrel hunting in a big public hunting area. I saw a white face and beard,so walked over to the guy. He was in full camo, but I picked him out from over 50 yards away. He asked me how I could see him,and I mentioned what I saw. We both learned a lesson that day,lol

Another good one, Robert. Thank you. I still use a ladder stand now and then, but I much prefer being down on the ground "at deer level." I"m not half the hunter you are, but I feel just as strongly about the importance of "back cover" and of hiding the glare of my face and hands. I"m amazed at how many experienced deer hunters ignore these basics.

Robert, I have hunted from the ground most of my life. You are spot on my friend. Camo that matches the environment in brightness and general mixture of light to dark help you blend in a lot. And something break up your face for a good while I used some old sun glasses with the lenses popped out and some camo mesh attached with pipe cleaners. It was nice to be able to take them off when you wanted, but hid that large white looking disk of a face… my beard helped for many years do the same thing.

I'm a disabled veteran of 55, and getting a little more disabled every year. Live in Florida where limits on tiny deer a tough. Pressure on hogs just about as tough (nocturnal, state trapping on public lands, etc.). Being in the tree just a little too dangerous anymore. I think I'm gonna try the public lowlands for turkey now. If a hog happens along, ok. Doing it all from the ground just makes more sense. Have you heard of Sawyer Picardin insect repellent lotion yet? Almost completely odorless. Saw 2 does from ground up close last time I used it. This post very useful. I'll definitely use it! Tks!

I greatly appreciate you taking the time to put this series together. I’ve hunted with a compound since I was about 12. I joined PBS and committed to the stick bow exclusively this year. I started the season hunting from a lightweight stand (mainly hunt public) but have found myself setting up on the ground almost all the time recently. I’m probably going to stick with it. The ability to move and be mobile is one of the biggest benefits that I see. Even though my stand/sticks are very light, It’s going to take a lot for me to get down and move mid hunt, unlike with ground hunting.

I’ve been using a loose leaf type camo almost exactly like yours for years. I have a brownish tone suit and a greenish one for different seasons. Deer, coyotes and resident cows have walked within 10 feet of me many times. Once, while pig hunting with one of my pistols I shot a coyote at no more than 15 feet. I had the wind and folks you just need to get rid of your shiny white face and hands. All the camo won’t matter for close up if your white parts are exposed. Gotta get in tune with the woods etc.

Great video! I turn 71 in a few days, plus I suffered a back injury that makes my footing not as good as it could be. So I’m very interested in seeing your next video. I always enjoy them, no matter the topic . I really like that you tell the stories of your hunts. Please include any small game hunts you might have on film. I’ve killed a lot of deer over the years and mostly with a recurve. I was shooting a Damon Howatt Hunter 65# @ 28”. When I was shooting split finger I was drawing 29”. Just yesterday I switched over to three under. It’s a long story but in the end I had lost so much weight that my body mass declined, as did my strength. It hit me the first day of turkey season and it’s the 4th of November and I’m just shooting well enough to hunt. So with all that going on, I won’t be able to climb any trees. I’ve been trying to find a Black Widow Pch in 45#, but no luck. I’m currently shooting a 58” double carbon longbow.

I use the two folders you’ve shown quite a bit. I try to find a place where I can lean back on a tree or post. This is a great aid in being still for a lot longer periods of time. Of course I’m wearing a loose- leaf suit and my face and hands are covered. Nothing like a big ol’ white shiny face in the woods for animals to pick up on lol. Out here in the Texas panhandle there’s no oaks dropping acorns so I set up on their travel routes depending on the wind. I use a compound now for several years and like to set up no more than 25 yards off their trails. I have a couple of custom made archery box blinds I use when it gets cold and nasty, but love sitting out on the rails so much more. Anyway, Ive only taken one big doe this season as for whatever reason we don’t have any decent shooter bucks even on camera. Crazy year on this place. Enjoy your videos!👍👍

Always lots of info. yeah, stuff like this would have sped things up a lot of me years ago LOL. I am older now and mostly hunt from the ground. I have to get pretty comfortable sitting. I even use my hang ons for off the ground hunting where they are hanging at a height that makes it easy for me to stand up and walk on the ground. Shiny is an enemy as you said. I wear plaids and such. I only wore camo to hide from other hunters. Yeah Brother, keep the videos coming. You are just common people like a lot of us and you know the Lord so that makes it even better.

The word you’re looking for is reflective so the materials do not return light. Simply said it is mat and preferably of a darker hew like green or blue (because is rhymes) meaning that the subject, that’s you, absorb the light and does not attract unwanted attention and therefor reveal said subject. Your presentation has given many archers a clearer perspective in the subject of ground hunting, tis the true way. May your arrows whisper to the trees from whence they came. Kindest regards

Great tips on this one! I especially like the idea of scraping the ground out ahead of time and of using the char from the bark of a tree from a controlled burn is resourceful. It’s hard to match the thrill of a deer at eye level, especially when you go undetected. Good luck hunting!

Robert, great video, enjoyed all the wisdom. I got squirrels and rabbits with my osage self bows, but I never got a whitetail. The one hunt where everything was going perfect, I was backed up against a 5 foot muddy riverbank, and there was a ravine above and behind me. I saw that deer hiway so many times before, and the day before I made my mind up I was gonna set 10 yards from that trail. I tried to match my brownest hunting clothes and had a headnet. When she came and jumped down to my level, I didn't move. Waited to draw till she skipped down to the lowest bank. I drew, the arrow looked perfect, 1/6th'ing in behind the right shoulder, when a loud snort came from the deer behind her. She lunged forward and the arrow hit her hindquarters. I was so down that I never found her.

I’m definitely with you on being tired of carrying all the stuff a guy needs to climb, I’ve even gotten my saddle stuff down to right at about 10lb, plus stuff get the deer worked up and out of the woods. I have a tree seat I’ve modified works great, and now I’m about to start using a turkey chair, very low profile. Because some of the places are too thick for typical chair height or standing, to be able to see em comming a little bit, and if you climb, there’s no cover to climb to, you over it, but if your low in a turkey seat you have ample cover while being able to see good. Good luck sir!

Another great video Robert! Thanks very much! I enjoy hunting from the ground quite a bit. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just lazy or getting old. I think it's both! But it is a great way to enjoy a hunt and I appreciate your tips. I use the Waldrop pac seat and have for many years now. David Waldrop uses a "gillie" suit modified by cutting off the arms and a lot of the burlap parts to make it lighter and less hot. He claims phenomenal success with his setup. I only have an. ASAT leafy suit and honestly have not used it much. I use the head net part of the suit all the time but generally use a checkered flannel shirt and tan colored pants. I need to pay more attention to my hands in warm weather. In cool weather I wear gloves. Surprisingly I have killed several deer from the ground. I'm about at 25 % of your kills so I like to listen to you. Good luck this season!

Most of the new camo is ridiculous. I say it’s made for the box blind hunting. The outerwear would be ripped to shreds by a briar thicket, it ‘s loud and it cost a fortune. I wish we still had army surplus of WWII wool clothing.

Good video Mr. Carter. One thing I might add. At close distances like we are shooting, you best look up at the tree and see which way the acorns are going to be falling….that’s where the shot will be and we have to set up accordingly. That first water oak you showed…it was leaning hard right and the shot most likely would be behind the palmettos. Check out my D.I.Y hunting stool I made, it’s on my channel. It’s simple, works everywhere and you can make it in about 10 minutes from scrap lumber. It’s portable and very light and quiet. I need to get a patent on it.

A take some number Number 12 Bank line and I will find a spot on the ground. Try not to break any foliage and I just tie and bend all the little stuff around me. I find that that’s helpful for me. So if you just had a chair that you left out there, you could always leave it all tied up in that one particular spot for the couple days that you’re hunting.
