@@retrospear64 It is. Super cheap for what you get. Expansive world configuration options. Lots of mods and modding is easy af.

@@retrospear64 It's really really good. It's a lot slower and more complex than the other block game though with a much greater focus on survival, so don't expect life to be easy. There's a whole handbook in game that will give you all the info you need to get started though and you can easily learn as you go. It might well be my game of the year already.

Early game progress! It's nice that they let you transport whole berry bushes for yourself. I wonder if our roaring friend worked its way into the cave system and is stuck on the other side of our wall. Having a dangerous neighbor will keep Grugg on his toes for sure.

The farm plots on low fertility soils hurted my soul ;w; Interesting series thus far tho!

In the early development crops used to literally not grow on low fertility, they would go to about stage 3 then freeze. It was total garbage and drove away a lot of newer players, so they made it so fertility slowly recovers even when crops are on them.

@@omegahaxors3306 I thought you could still grow turnips or crops that used up only a little bit of nutrients at that time. Or it may have been a glitch that they fixed. And yeah, switching those crops to medium fertility ASAP is well worth it because you could practically grow two rotations of crops on medium while still waiting for the first rotation on low.

@@Sarafimm2 Nope crops used to just stop growing completely if they ran out of nutrients and unlike before, if a crop was on farmland it would never regain nutrients. Now it will regain them just a lot slower, which prevents you from softlocking yourself. You *could* break the softlock by finding fertilizer but chances are if you're ignorant enough to try to grow crops on low fertility, you're probably not going to know that fertilizer even exists, nonetheless where to find it.

Tip for farming. Dig irigation trenches. As long as there is a block of flowing water next to the farmland, water levels stay higher. Water levels drop rapidly when not directly next to water

! Grass blocks and farm blocks with grass that grew up on them within an enclosure can spawn rabbits! And those can eat your crops! You can dig one wide canals going out of the pond to expand the farm and minimize chances of animal spawns.

You also can only get hide from bigger animals, rabbits generally only give pellets

Sometimes it's just better to wait until you have space to go searching for crops. Plus he can "nerd pole" up towers where he can look over the landscape for crops, too. Many times you miss stuff just because of tall grass or bushes.

any farther than 2 blocks from water will not full wet the soil i believe is what is true. so 2 rows deep is fine at the waters edge.

Keep an eye out for higher fertility soil. That low fertility stuff is gonna make it a pain to grow anything.

I think, as less protection as it offers, you still may consider crafting the most basic armor out of some wood and grass. It may protect you for 1 or 2 hits, just in case, but rather letting you face death ... ^^

My guess is he's either embracing the caveman aesthetic instead of min-maxing, or he - like me - don't find the trade-off of a tiny bit of protection for lower running speed and food consumption worth it. In my experience, wooden lamellar is worse than running around naked, for the simple reason that you can't outrun wolves and bears with it equipped.

Different regions have different rock layers in them, so he got really lucky (in some ways) and spawned on top of a basalt field. You can only find obsidian as inclusions in basalt fields in the game, so you might need to travel several thousand blocks to find a region with basalt.

Vintage story is a amazing game but it sure does feel lonely without npc survivors like it would be amazing if you could build a small village with Npcs that actually do jobs and make things lil more alive and make less work for you to do😪

The game is far from done, so we might get something like that eventually..! I love the idea of opening a tavern and serve all my surplus wine and food, and travelling NPC's stopping by, and maybe some of them wants to stay and establish themselves! But all of that is a whole other level of coding though. And sounds like a potential buggy nightmare. 😂

It's called vintage story, it's a block based voxel game with a much heavier focus on survival and the environment. It's definitely sucked up the last few weeks worth of my spare time so I'd 100% say it's worth trying at least.

Can I suggest that, for RP reasons, Grug grows more intelligent over time so once he learns farming and smelting, he goes by Greg and when he's worked iron into steel, he goes by Greg Smith? Just for a little nod to how names tended to work over human history
