In this video, my father and I set out to hunt ruffed grouse in the remote north Maine woods. Despite the rainy day we managed to have an awesome hunt limiting out in only a few hours. To close out the day be brought those partridge back to my family’s tree farm and did a catch and cook over an open fire! This 2020 season has been the best year I’ve seen for partridge in years and today was no exception! Stick around to see how the hunt unfolded!
Ruffed grouse season or to many New Englanders “Partridge” season is finally here. You’ll all be happy to know that this video is part 3 of a 3-part series where I traveled to Northern Maine to hunt for Grouse in the remote North Maine Woods. This was hands down the best season I’ve ever seen! There are more birds in the woods than ever, and it made for some great videos! Hope you enjoy it!
If you missed the first two parts check them out here:

If some one doesn’t like this Jesse , it’s because they are jealous, your grouse hunting in Maine is much different from here in NC , but if I ever got to go up there , I would hunt just like you guys , I have killed a lot of grouse here but never not one from the roads , we have to get out and walk around to be able to get them here , and it is very steep and rocky and laurel thickets where they are , so it is tough here , ohh and every time you harvest a bunch of birds and eat them for a meal , that’s one meal saved for someone who is not so fortunate, so thank you Jesse and dad for sharing your hunts with us , I might not ever have the money to go up there and hunt , but at least through your efforts I will have had the chance to experience what life is like in the big north woods.

I never had the opportunity to know my father let alone learn to hunt from him but I found my way into it anyways. This is my second year hunting ruffed grouse, and Grey partridge mainly and I am loving it with my girl by my side. I'm hoping one day when I have a son I can be a dad to him the way yours is to you, great video guys. -Alberta, Canada

Jesse, I must say I enjoy your videos immensely. Your folks have done a fine job. As an avid grouse Hunter I enjoy them the most and I really like your truck camper. I'm 62 yrs old and hunted out of my truck most of my life. Be grateful that your Dad instilled a love of nature and the ethics you have shown. Now that I have retired I plan on coming to Maine and walking the back roads as you do. Those who have never done that don't know what they are missing. I honestly hope to run into you there and if God is willing we can share a sandwich. Kudos young man.

We just got back from the NMW zone 1 with our successful moose hunt in allagash, we tagged him in fort Kent, we grouse hunted and camped our way back down south via the NMW roads from dickey check point the tip top of Maine estcourt road down to the Golden road elm stream twp, exiting 20 mile check point covering 500 + miles back home to jackman. Shot lots of grouse making our way back home , good family time

I just went on my first North Maine Woods grouse hunting trip a couple weeks ago. Was up for 5 days, came home with three each day, my buddy limited out twice. Camped off the Golden Road by 20 mile gate, did some road hunting and a ton of stalking. My buddy gave me crap about bringing a 69 year old16ga model 12 until the first bird was dropped. First time up, will certainly not be my last.

It's such a beautiful vibe that forest with all those game birds to hunt and the pond behind the house is just beautiful nature and the way you all follow rules of hunting and shoot to your bag limit it's great I wish the same would happen here in Pakistan cause we have lost deers and some game birds such as partridges are becoming less and less available for hunting every time we go for hunting on Sundays we get a bag of one or two or at some lucky days four or five after walking and hunting for whole day! Anways great hunting video

Awesome! I have been coming up from mass to hunt the nmw’s for birds for almost 30 years after I was introduced to the sport by guys in my dorm at umo who have become lifelong friends, I have seen the sharp decline of them down here and it’s sad, too much development and too many treehuggers who think a healthy forest means nothing but a mature trees with no logging, I hope that things stay the same up there bc I have seen an incredibly disturbing lack of protection for quality upland habitat down here

I’m in the Philly area as well. I go up to Maine every year for grouse. How you seen in this video is just how easy it is. Although I’ve never limited out in 2 hrs. I also spend a lot of time in the woods with my dogs but there are always birds along the rd. Tons of public land to hunt. You can go into the north Maine woods and tent camp or just stay in your vehicle

I enjoy your videos and love partridge hunting. We're blessed to have so much open, free access to pursue outdoor sports, it's our heritage as Mainers. With that in mind, why do you post your own land? it appears in the video that you have a "No Trespassing" sign at the cabled entrance of your road. Why not allow fellow hunters to park at the cable and take a walk in hopes of finding a biddy or two? Just like you do on other people's land who have chosen not to post it. I'll apologize up front if I misunderstand the situation.
@MainelyOutDoors
@MainelyOutDoors 3 жыл бұрын
There’s un unfortunate reason alot of land gets posted.. our land was open access for over 30 years. However people take advantage of it and abuse it. We’ve had people poaching, cutting trees as they see fit, and making a mud pit of our roads in spring.. it got to the point where it just made sense to post it unfortunately. For those how can respect it there is a hidden key.

why is the grouse population taking a hit in pa Ohio but in Maine it's fine. they say the grouse lost new growth forest that come in after logging in these areas. I wonder if the logging activity in Maine is way higher.
@MainelyOutDoors
@MainelyOutDoors 2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure thats part of it. Maine has a lot of logging activity but we also have millions of acres of forests both logged and old growth. I think just having the habitat variation mixed with logging is promoting the population. There are also areas where people just don't hunt them because its protected land or is just so hard to access

cool channel. I would caution you about posting videos where you are really road hunting only, and ground sluicing birds. I know its a cultural thing in Maine...for hunting "partridge"... but consider how it represents hunting.. We have all taken birds on branches etc...but that is different than what we want to represent to the broader world. maybe consider upping the game - get a dog, get off the road. shoot birds on the wing etc. just a thought to consider.
