Hurricane Beryl: Cruise ships caught in the storm

Ай бұрынCruise lines forced to re-route and change itineraries amid category four Hurricane Beryl. According to Stewart Chiron, The Cruise Guy, it is typical during hurricane season that cruise lines have to change plans. Usually, we don’t see impacts this early, but Chiron said the companies are ready to change itineraries at the drop of a hat.

Been through a few and have always just had to switch some ports and were never disappointed in how well the cruise lines handle storms and NOT JUST hurricanes. Better than being stuck in a land-based resort with nothing left but to end the vacation when bad weather occurs..

Correction it is nota storm but a district I've hurricane a ship does not want to be caught in one, so much damage can be done and people hurt if things go wrong they are not really built to sail happily into hurricanes or cyclones.

A Captain does NOT NEED PERMISSION TO PROTECT HIS VESSEL! You're into line needs work. Yes, they'll need permission to use alternate ports, but not to "move off course" for safety. No different from an airline captain.

Was on the carnival liberty last week from the 30th til the 7th and had a great time. We had to cancel going to Belize due to the storm but never had any problems. Only rained on us for about 30 minutes the whole week. Spent an extra day at sea and the ship staff went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful safe time. We go every year during this same time and never had a storm affect us til now, so we will probably continue to do so.

People pay for cruise vacations months in advance. There’s no way to predict a hurricane on your vacation. Just cause it’s hurricane season doesn’t mean you should just expect it 😅 No need to live in terror

Hi! I ' v worked for Norwgian Cruise Line, in 2003/2004. We have caught a very huge storm heading to Berdmuda. It was very bad. They stop the ship, the waves broke the windows on deck 5, an the water went inside the ship. They sound the alarm, 7 short blasts followed by one long blast (abamdon ship). It was....o my god, a lot of people got scared, I couldn't belive what is going on. I felt like in Titanic, people crying, kids crying everywere, panic!!! I Will never forget this! It is just a short depiction from tjat nigjt, it took hours to settle down everything.

Hurricane Beryl passed us in Grand Cayman at 5:30am this Thursday morning, about 60 miles south of us, as a Cat 3. We did not lose power or water, not much damage, thankfully. The sea on Seven Mile Beach looked like glass. It was so smooth she passed us at 10:30am. The waves were starting to build, and a lot more rain. Thinking of the others who were deeply affected. Also, us locals call it CAYmaaaannnn, not CayMENS. #cayman #beryl

I will never understand how cruise ships or vacationers/honeymooners get affected by hurricanes. Y’all knew about this hurricane for like the last week at least. They predict where these storms will go so everyone should be well aware. Either go to your destination and leave early ahead of the storm or cancel, and the cruise line should have gotten their ships well out of the way days ago before Beryl got anywhere up here, even remaining at a port extra days if necessary. Every time there’s a storm the news always finds some stupid family hunkering down in a hotel to interview like we’re supposed to care. But why should we when they didn’t even care about themselves? 🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🙄🙄
