You certainly did everything humanly possible to secure Happy Ours. But when you have a once in a 200 year or more storm surge, i dont know what else could you have done. I sure hope that they can lift her up safely, and she's floating again soon!

Had I known what I know now, I would have put the boat at my partially finished dock. I had pilings 6’ above the deck which would have given me an additional 2 feet plus cleats to use. Hindsight is 20/20.

Buddy, sorry for the hurricane trouble; I used to live in Charleston, SC, had a 30' Sea Ray and my first summer I was there we had a level 3 Hurricane and I freeked out, too! I called the insurance company, as I had never been exposed to hurricanes up on the Great Lakes (Lake Michigan) asking just what are we supposed to do? All they could suggest was to double up on my Dock Lines..... It made it through just fine and never even lost any of my canvas. Two months latter we had a level 5 and the whole town evacuated, but the blunt of the storm made landfall 75 miles north and really never touched land...it went back out into the ocean. I will suggest, though, get rid of that Plastic Pipe you are using for Dock Pilings and replace them with Telephone, wooden poles, there is a reason these are the most common piling used, it doesn't snap off easily, as you have discovered with the plastic pipe; there is a reason they are the accepted material used in this application. They rarely snap off; plastic looks nice but has little holding strength. I suggest making them 7-8' taller than your seawalls height, for surge reasons, at a marina. You have a great property and can attach them to your seawall for maximum holding power from winds in ALL directions....at least you know that your boat has great cleats, now!!!!

I didn’t know those pvc pilings were hollow at the time as I was using my neighbors dock as mine was being built. . I just thought they were sleeves over wood pilings. My new dock has taller 6’ pilings over the dock all wood.

Crazy idea, can pvc pipes be place under the boat and roll it towards the water. It sounds of the wall but give it some though. Have move cement floors with this technique. Hope you can get the boat back in the water and keep making videos, my wife and I have enjoy your videos. My best wish to you and all the people recovering from this nightmare.

Rolling it isn’t an option. Boat has a keel and it’s wedged in dirt right behind sea wall.

Curious question. What did you do so differently or what is the difference in your dock that caused such a difference between you and others on the canal? The image video showing helicopter is misleading and was wanting to see a video of a boat being lifted by helicopter.
@AdventuresofHappyOurs
@AdventuresofHappyOurs Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately my dock was still being built at the time of the hurricane so I was at a neighbors dock. They only have 4’ pilings with no cleats. Mine are 6’ tall. I have a video posted on my prep before storm. I added additional lines and put out both bow and stern anchors. As well as additional fenders. Boat rose over piling and lines with it, pulling one piling right off dock.

@Adventures of Happy Ours thanks for explaining. Makes sense. I just noticed others in the canals looked unaffected. Wishing you the best in your recovery. It was an incredible event. The change in the path of the eye saved LBK condo I have. Initial forecasted path would have seen LBK being the Sanibel island of the storm. The 2 people I personally know wirh property damaged (Sanibel and Naples) all I could think to say was stuff can be fixed or replaced loss of human life can't be reversed. Good luck. Stay positive. It will take time but recovery will happen.

SOB-you guys rode out the storm and watched all this go on from the house?you may have posted videos of those details-but it’s been a while since I watched anything from your channel. Honestly-I do remember you guys a while back discussing your move to Florida and now I’m seeing this on my YT feed-SOB I feel terrible for you guys…I am subscribed but apparently that notification bell is pretty useless.I’m certainly gonna keep my eyes open for anymore videos you post. As bad as that looks-If she didn’t go down,I bet you can repair it and make it right again.Did anyone suggest 2 smaller cranes on smaller barges working in Tandem to lift it?just a thought…Best Regards to you and your family-JohnM L.I.N.Y

At least there's a few responsible boat owners in Florida. I can't believe the number of owners on a regular basis let alone after Ian that abandon their boats in the state. Some still sitting in median strips up the street. The state is full of derelict marinas that are environmental nightmares. What's more shocking is that the state does nothing about it.

Can't they reach her with a crane from that empty lot next door? Or from the street and over the house where it sits? I imagine there is a long wait for a crane, and the neighbor will soon be yelling to Happoy Ours' Get off my lawn!'
@AdventuresofHappyOurs
@AdventuresofHappyOurs Жыл бұрын
Yes neighbor is getting anxious. The size crane needed to lift a 20kpound boat from over 100’ away is enormous. The longer the reach, the larger the crane. Getting a barge close to the boat is the best option but the 35’ canal width is a problem too.

Don't they have something like inflatable bags that can be used to move boats?
