If you aren't around the most affected area then you can can get prepared with supplies and stay in your house, if the government or neighbors tell you to evacuate from your area, please do it now, (I'm in the north west of Florida so I can stay in my home and maybe be safe from the hurricane)

If u live in the path of this hurricane, u should evacuate. I live in Houston and Harvey ended being category 2-3 hurricane and i wish i would've left before it hit. But damn, category 5 ?! Leave while can.

I'm near Jupiter where the eye of the hurricane is predicted to pass. Please keep Florida in your prayers, let's all pray that this hurricane is pushed further east and that no one else gets harmed because of it. I'm planing on vlogging this storm, and the aftermath of my region. I recently moved to Florida from Massachussets and I've never been throw a hurricane in my life. I don't know what to expect. I'm genuinely scared.

im sorry to hear you think the truth is "hate." just think about it, what does a prayer actually do? Nothing. Can you pray back the 60 people that died from Harvey? Society needs to move on from this "god" nonsense and focus on taking responsibility for our actions.

Atheist The truth is that one cannot get prove that God does exist, nor can one prove that he doesn't. I understand your point of view. Prayers won't necessarily do anything to physically better our lives. But I see OP's comment as more of a expression of sympathy and care than strictly a religious expression. Personally it warms my heart to see people wishing us a safe time during Irma. And while you see all this sappy 'religion' stuff as a nuisance in society, I think we just need to be more open-minded and accepting, particularly to people with good intentions.

For those of you thinking that global warming and climate change are causing these storms, *_they are not._* We are currently in a _La Niña_ episode, which is when the Atlantic waters are warmer than usual, meaning that hurricanes have a higher probability of forming. I live in Florida and I'm already boarding up.

remember Puerto Rico is American. They know how to get into bunkers but will need recovery assistance. Dominica, Haiti, Cuba, Indies, and Florida are gonna need major help too.

+J hilly Ever been there Mr. Hilly? I lived there for six months after hurricane George when I worked for the Red Cross. Good folks and they allowed us a great Naval base for our protection. They pay taxes and don't get a vote. Speak better English than I do. Gotta be brave to drive there though.

I see many people in the comments who refuse to evacuate because they "think" it won't be that bad. But is this really the time to rely on optimistic beliefs and risk your lives in the process? This is not about what happens if the hurricane doesn't hit; it's about what happens if it does.
