As natives of Queens, NY, we've never experienced anything like this.
On the 28th we stopped by Rockaway Beach to catch a glimpse of what the waves were looking like and noticed that police were evacuating the boardwalk. Before I can grab my camera and really capture the current situation, we were already being asked to leave.
The next day, the 29th, the heavy winds started to really pick up so I decided to take the camera out and capture the moment. The water also began to rise quickly from the East River and anyone that was parked along my building or in the parking garage was asked to move their car. By nightfall the entire area was flooded. There were a couple cars that we're filled with water along with the lobby of my building. I only captured a few clips right outside the door and went back in where it was safer.
The day after the hurricane, the 30th, everything was a mess. My friend and I decided to drive into Brooklyn to check on his in-laws home and from there we drove into Far Rockaway. It was crazy to see this place like this. There we're fire fighters going door to door asking if people we're okay along with police officers and military personnel. We didn't stay too long but I did bring my camera along to film and take some photos of the aftermath.
