Wal-Mart actually did a SMART thing by opening its stores just outside the NYC boundary. All the Long Island communities that border Queens all have a Wal-Mart. The one in Valley Stream has a rear parking lot that actually just crosses the border into Queens (Rosedale). The other two - Hillside Ave in New Hyde Park and Northern Blvd in Great Neck are both less than a quarter mile from the Queens border. And there are 3 more WM's in Nassau County - Uniondale, Westbury, and Levittown. And there are at least two more right across the Bronx/ Westchester border in Mt. Vernon and Yonkers as well.

I'm a retail worker, who lived in the pre-1984 world. The COMMUNITY used to be the first line of protection.... that "First responder" shit was something that they made the "new" world believe. It used to be acceptable to say "Don't steal that" and other people around SUPPORTED, instead of putting their head down or grabbing a cell phone. I am a retail insurance claim agent with the title of "Merchandising Lead" ..... they steal thousands of dollars a night - I go do an in store inventory count = they file an insurance claim. I've done an inventory count on BRAND name merchandize twice in the last 3 months. Theft pays, because insurance was created by criminals. Creating problems for the new online shopping world. Locally - Nancy Pelosi's father was an insurance agent, before he went into politics.

Don't worry Target will just close. Those workers are now safe to be criminals.

Criminals shouldn't be able to sue anyone when injured during the act of their crime, it's why police have that immunity.

Worked at cvs in the front for 8+ years in Massachusetts and stopped hundreds of shoplifters saving 100’s of thousands of dollars, potentially $300K + because the shoplifters would go to another store and not mine because the word got out that they’d be caught and cops called on them. Sometimes cops would come before the shoplifter even left the store. Also concealment is against the law so at times I’d just safely confront them in the aisle or let other coworkers know so they could be nearby. I got really good at it, most times I could tell right when they entered the store because their shoplifter mannerism and used the mirrors on the ceiling to see into an aisle from an aisle or two away. It’s not that fact that the thief will claim they were hurt by the retail employee but the fact that some retail employees would hurt shoplifters making it a liability to stop shoplifters unless you know the rules and policy and can be safe about it. Perfect example is that one time a cvs loss prevention officer was stopping someone, chase them down in their car like a maniac and ended up shooting him. forget if the guy died but less than a month later the loss prevention position was no more and all in store loss prevention employees were let go. Eventually they did bring the position back because they probably realized they lost more in shoplifting than paying a lawsuit settlement.
