As per the standard for north american food-naming conventions... the european way is the original flapjack, and you made it a nickname for a completely different food. Like how americans call pizzas pies, or cottage pie (beef) shepherds pie (shepherds has to have lamb in it), or the worst of all, not only calling spaghetti, noodles.... but calling all pasta noodles. I heard john green call a sheet of lasagne a bloody noodle. Pancakes are pancakes. Flapjacks, which are older than the usa, are flapjacks.

I'm pretty sure they have to submit their list of prize tasks before the beginning of taping and they get told then if any are ruled out - and I think from interviews that *way more are vetoed than we ever know. But how much time they get to come up with substitutions, I'm not sure of. Sophie's situation makes it seem like she might have had multiple ones rejected.

Penn Jillette once said that having someone disappear from the audience and appear in the crowd is such an easy trick. Apparently you can just walk down the aisle once you're off the stage without anyone seeing you because everyone in the crowd is focused in what's happening on the stage.

The farthing ceased to be legal tender in the early sixties, well before full decimalisation was introduced in 1971. The coins themselves I always thought were rather boring, nothing in comparison to a good hearty threepence piece, or 'thruppenny bit' 12 sides and very thick (for its value), much more fun :)

That's even MORE off than what Neil, or anyone of us in North America, would call a flapjack. A flapjack here is aka a pancake. Sorta like how in the U.S. our biscuits are soft, buttery, savory quick bread typically eaten at breakfast in different fashions (personally, I prefer it to make a sandwich with sausage, chicken, or even bacon), and in the UK, it's what we call cookies.

I had to do some research on that "flapjack" thing because it confused me too. I watch a ton of British shows and thought I had all my mental translations in place, but that was a new one to me. Apparently flapjack has meant a pancake or something like it in North America since colonial times. In the UK, it meant the same thing until the 1930's when they suddenly decided it should refer to oat cakes instead.

@@simontay4851 the watershed is 9PM, so the rules that dictate what can be shown on Taskmaster and what can be shown on Naked Attraction are exactly the same. Also, while you're right about expecting to see nipples on a show called Naked Attraction, such a show wouldn't be allowed to exist if the no nipples on Channel 4 thing was true.
