Thank you! The Expedition Parka should be pretty similar in warmth to the Extreme Warmer coat. Both are listed as being made for below freezing temperatures. The Extreme Overall might be a little bit warmer then either coat though, as it covers further down the legs. If you have dogs in full coat I dont think the Hurtta coats will work super well. They are usually semi rough on the inside as they have a padding. My fully coated Powderpuff has to wear coats that are super slick on the inside so the fur doesnt get rubbed. I do have the extreme overall for my chinese naked, and he LOVES it. Its super warm and nice. My powderpuff used it when he was cut short and he also loved it, they are mega warm. Only issue is that they are semi rough on the inside for the fully coated dogs. I love Hurtta with all my hearth and I have so many of their coats for my naked, but they just dont work for the fully coated as well unless they make one thats smooth on the inside =)

I do walk my dog in this jacket with a regular collar-leash attachment. If you don't snug the first adjustment in the neck area (the one that would tighten just behind the ears), it actually still works okay with a leash attached to the collar. It does pull the neck area back a little bit though.

Many folks on Amazon have rated the Summit coat meatier all as being very thin, fragile & easily torn. Do you feel that the Explorer is durable enough to not be damaged in daily use?

@@Primo489 so far the expedition parka has been very durable. It is holding up to sticks and burrs and my dog rolling around on the ground during hikes.🙂

That could be a problem in deep snow. I haven't noticed any accumulation of snow in the jacket on our hikes, but typically she doesn't spend much time off the trail in the deeper snow.

This is the 22inch (55 cm) coat. And yes, it is waterproof! We just took it on a hike in slushy rain/snow conditions and Glia stayed nice and dry.

Good question. Glia doesn't normally wear the elastic leg straps (she doesn't like the feel of them and moves better without them + I agree that they aren't really the right shape for a slim dog). So I do tie them up and out of the way. I have also tied them together over the base of her tail to keep the sides of the jacket closer to her. The tie needs to be over the tail, not under though, or they will be in the way when your dog needs to defecate. Let me know if that works for you also.

Our potcake straps get in the way of her puff and bum so we don’t put her legs in them

My dog weighs 40 pounds. She's pretty petite for that long of a back. And as you can see in the video, the coat is a little large for her.

Yes, the "inside" of the coat is a soft, fleece-type fabric.

I agree that it would be nice to cover as much of a female dog's belly as possible. This coat does come back relatively far, but there could be more coverage if it was female dog specific.

The sizing can be complicated. But there are sizes intended just for Dachshunds. Per Hurtta sizes 40XS and 45XS are made for Dachshunds. These sizes are longer with smaller neck circumferences compared to the standard sizes.
