The first hardcore band that could write beautiful melodies. Here is the evidence.

Many would argue, but personally this was where alternate - for the US at least - ultimately started. Husker is largely responsible for the great alt rock acts that came after.

Great clip. Much better quality than the others on here. Chartered Trips is just the epitome of Husker Du greatness. What would the world be without Bob Mould and Zen Arcade?

I never saw this video on anything except old copied VHS-tapes. Actually great footage and sound. Anyone who wondered why their later albums sounded so weird listen to this, because thats how they sounded right under the jet plane loudness. I guess they just mixed their albums pretty loud.

This was always one of my favorite guitar riffs of Bob's. I saw them on this tour--well, this year--at the Pine Street Theater in Portland. They were so active then. This is a surprisingly good shot from that era. Nice stuff.

Bob fought through this one for sure. I absolutely love this performance, and this song. Bob would probably want this one back, but I sure as hell don't.

Cut Mould some slack. It’s hard to have the same energy as the studio recording when you’re playing a show in a hot sweaty club while being on tour for months on end. Plus he was known to indulge in drugs at this point

And they flew to London from the east coast after one gig, played this gig the day after, and flew back. So you could excuse him for being a bit messed up ;-)

It's hard work, touring, my respect has always gone to any touring band. Sitting on the top of amps going 100 miles there, 100 miles back from just 1 gig is a totally missable experience let me tell ya

Love this song, but yeah Mould isnt totally into it. Not sure if the end was already in sight. Love Grant Hart and damn no one ever talks about Greg Norton whose bass was always fucking awesome.

The band was up past 24 hours and you can really tell that Bob is the most tired by looking at his eyes in the vid and the fact that some of his screams don’t last for too long or it just sounds like he’s groaning through the set.

That's a bit of a leap, putting Mr Beiber at no. 2 behind Husker Du. If Husker didn't exist I'd probably put on some Ramones, some Heavy Metal Kids, some New York Dolls, some Mama's & Papa's, some Hoodoo Gurus, some Replacements, some Beatles and cap it all off with some ABBA for street cred. But at no point in this Husker-less world would I reach for a Beiber cd...unless it was to hand to someone who liked that kinda thing. Music's music, live and let listen, to paraphrase Mr McCartney.
